I keep finding myself drawn to these replicas .

Which are the companies to stay away from ? Any particularly decent forums ?

Who do you folks recommend for online ordering ?

Aside from a CVA kit I built back in the 80's , the only experience I have with the pistols is the Walker Colt ...an Armi San Marco .  I vaguely remember reading somewhere of the internals being junk in one of the Italian makers ....good place for replacement guts ?

Pics.....post em if ya got em......

And another thing.....what's the federal law in regards to putting a stock on a BP pistol ?

And even if it were legal , I assume that it goes out the window with a Kurst cartridge conversion ??

I have that pistol. It is a beast. If I remember correctly you can load 55 grains behind a round ball and it is potent!  Mine chain fired on me once and it was a bit scary to say the least.

I had a chance to buy a used one, that was like new, for $200 a few years ago.  But I was broke at the time...

Somebody should create a Modern LeMat, with .44 magnum and 12 gauge barrels.

The Colt revolver rifles would take you hand off if they chain fired.

I was actually thinking .500 Mag, but figured it was a little large.

What the hell.... .500 Magnum and 10 gauge.

If I win the powerball, that will be on the build list.

Allot of people use Crisco also.  It is non petroleum based

Vaseline is good in most cases but it will run off if it's hot weather.  I used to use Crisco but it goes rancid in your "possibles" bag. Plain old axle grease works pretty danged good if you don't forget to put it that one damned time.

Chain fires happen not from the front end, but from the back end, due to loose caps on the nipples.

But yes folks use Crisco, but its more for lube.  If you use an oversize ball and shave a ring of lead when seating, there is really no way for a spark to get past the ball and to the powder.

Although you're not supposed to run BP in the Uberti repros (they lack the gas ring that served to prevent fouling from locking up the cylinder), so it isn't exactly fitting for this thread.

I realize that I live in Southern Indiana, and the NMLRA is only a couple hours away, and I can shoot a blackpowder match every weekend if I wanted to, but I can find caps and every type of roundball needed for pistol, rifle or musket in multiple shops all around me.  Is this just an Indiana thing?  When I was a Ft Bragg there was a Muzzleloading shop right off base, and NY was just as easy as here.  Is it not that way all over the country?

Sort of a kit.   It is all cast parts that need to be cleaned and polished.   The stock is basically shaped, but still allot of fitting to do.  The trigger guard and butt plate take a good bit of time to inlet.         The barrel is pretty much ready to go, but you have to breach it, silver solder the lugs, and drill and tap the touch hole liner.   The Brass side plate is something I added the parts kit just comes with a steel one.     The trigger, I also ended up using something with a higher pivot point than what it came with.. ( results in a nicer trigger pull)     The lock is pretty much ready to go.  I usually tear them down and do some polishing on them anyway.

This is where the kit came from.   http://longrifles-pr.com/blunderbuss.shtml        I usually stop by there every year as they are about 20min from where my Dad lives.
