Call me when they have 'no rules' motorsports. Better hop in the wayback machine.
The rules are constantly changing because technology finds ways to overcome almost any limit. No holds barred F1 cars would go 300 mph, pull 9 lateral Gs, and black their drivers out every time they hit the brakes.

They're using 1.6L turbo V-6s, and slashing how much gas they can carry. Plus energy regeneration systems. Pure faggotry. Pure politically correct faggotry. I actually think this is one Tech Reg regime which could produce something usable on pass cars. Running an electrical generator off of an exhaust driven turbine is a neat idea. |

Call me when they have 'no rules' motorsports. That sounds good but the reality is that unlimited racing is too cost prohibitive for any one or any corporation to attempt to compete in that arena. It's not the 1960s anymore, with limited or no rules the racing budgets would be past one billion dollars. The things that large engineering teams can do is only limited by budget. Think of it as a new fighter plane design every year. |

Cool video. thanks for posting that OP. One of the coolest things about formula one is they are always pushing the limits of technology. Doing more with less, etc. I cant wait for the season to start. |

I'm not a big fan of the new regs either, but electric "boost" motors are the way forward in ultra-high performance cars. The Porsche 918 and McLaren P1 are literally rewriting the books about what cars can do.
Electric motors work 87 times better as performance enhancement than economy aids. |

The "golden age" of F1 in the 70s when racing technology was growing by leaps and bounds and safety was for pussies fascinates me. Those guys in the early days were half crazy and half nuts.
I am all for safety and don't celebrate death, but you have to admit the real possibility of a fiery cloud of aluminum, rubber and fiberglass careening off the track really made those races something else. Great video, OP. Thanks for posting. |

The two hybrid hypercars are widely reviewed as game changers and are frankly, utterly boner inducing (esp the McLaren). If I win the lottery I will make it my mission to DD a McLaren P1 and park it in every "Hybrid/electric car only" parking space I can find. |

Does this mean someone will finally get passed? No. They would have to cover the wheels & get rid of the spoilers for that - it would look like Euro-NASCAR. Hope Shumacher pulls through. The greatest (not smartest) drive I ever saw in racing was when he hit Coultard in the rain and Shumacher lost his right front wheel. Shumacher drove it to the pit, in the rain, at speed. No wonder the man thought he was bulletproof. |

Engines in newly manufactured cars today are benefiting from race tech innovations. The current gasoline engine is only something like 37% efficient, with the other 63% lost as heat. Already manufacturers are looking for ways to use that heat to produce power, and odds are it will be tech that is developed in race cars. |

Covering a GP race distance at speed on 100 kg of fuel will be an impressive feat (once the tech is bedded in). And they're using pump fuel now - no more of those hyper-exotic blends they used with the V10s. The racing itself may be a bit hard to keep track of though, considering that the lap times can vary by +1 second due to ERS boost alone. |

Manufacturers have always used F1 for development of technologies they hope to introduce in their consumer product lines down the road. And plenty of F1 technologies have made it into the cars we drive today, or are on their way. It is one way these companies justify the expense of racing. |
