Mark your calendar. This Friday, March 14th (3.14), is day. It's an occasion to celebrate one of the most compelling and mysterious constants of Nature. Pi appears in equations describing the orbits of planets, the colors of auroras, the structure of DNA. The value of pi is woven into the fabric of life, the universe and ... everything.

I know my son memorized it out to 350 places is HS and won "Pizza pie" for his math class.
Some dude has dedicated his LIFE to memorizing it and has out to tens of thousands of places. As an irrational number its number sequence never repeats and goes on forever. |

"Pi" is not at all 'mysterious'.It's a very simple mathematical formula. It's a geometric ratio or constant not really a formula. The infinite series formula to calculate it isn't particularly simple. I think the number is "mysterious" in the same sense that 0, 1, e, infinity and such are also. |
