You become a team member by paying $$$....

That feature is only available if you join as a Team Member.  The cost is $60.00/yr.  There are several other benefits too.  Look on the Home Page under "Membership" for details.  This will change effective around the first of the year, with three levels of membership.  The main benefit is that is helps to support the site and keep it going.  You perhaps saw the other thread about another large BB shutting down.  We don't want that to happen here.  [shock]

I plan on becoming a Team Member at the beginning of the new year.  New Year's resolution.

thebeekeeper1 posted, "This will change effective around the first of the year, with three levels of membership".

Can we read about the new changes before they go into effect.  I would like to make a knowledgeable decision before joining.

I like reading the boards and like the features offered by AR15.com.  I would also like support AR15.com.

Thanks for the explanation.

I think I'll go for the $60.00 membership.  Now I have to break open the ol-piggy bank.

The $20.00 membership is a great idea for people to be able to try the boards out for size.

Hmm.. let me get this straight.. are you saying that other large BB shutting down has something to do with money? If you are, I don't think that's the case. That board doesn't take paid advertisers whatsoever, I dunno if they even solicit money from the users like they do here. Please explain the analogy you're trying to make with the other BB. (TheFiringLine) I do know that the owner is shutting down because he's not the time to tend it, but.. it's actually not shutting down, he's freezing it. No NEW posts. Everything that's there now is gonna be there when it 'shuts down' So the connections, servers, etc will still be running.

It's not because of money. If it was, he would have said something.

Realize that he bought SWAT magazine. Not at the bookstore, or a subscription. He bought the whole dang magazine and is the publisher.

No, I really don't think it's due to the money.

No, that's not what I'm saying at all.  His stated reason for shutting things down was "burnout and lack of time."  My point, and the reason for my comment, was that we have less chance of that happening here if the site does not cost the Avila's thousands a month to keep going.  The headaches/heartaches are enough of an emotional drain, without the added burden of having to finance something this large that has no real benefit to them other than a warm feeling of having contributed to the firearms community.  GoatBoy donates huge amounts of time, as well as money.  If the bandwidth bill doesn't get paid, nothing else matters--this place will disappear.  My point is simply that anything we can do to make GoatBoy's (and the rest of the family's) life easier, will make it more likely that he will see fit to continue our meeting place/playground.  That's all.

This thread was about money for the new features in paid membership. Least the parts that weren't edited out indicate that.

Bee, you talk about paying the $60 bucks to support the site. Then, your next sentence is about another "large BB" shutting down, and that "we don't want that to happen here" Seems to me, all you were doing was the 'send in your money' elsewise, we'll go under like "TheFiringLine"

Perhaps I'm still reading it wrong, *shrug*

bullet, I think your reading it very wrong.

Fact is that BB take money to run.  Where do you all think this money comes from??

Well, member dues help off set that cost.

I'm reading it wrong sgt? Not at all, I know it takes money to run this site and any other site on the internet. I'm not questioning that in the least. What I'm reading is Bee saying the site would go down like 'TheFiringLine' if users didn't pony up money here, that's all.

No more free ride? Or do we just get an acknowledgement that we aren't a guest lurker?

It's $20.00/[red]YEAR[/red].  [;)]

Gunny_G, there is still a free ride as a lurker.  You would only lose the Search function, but can still lurk and post.  Not everyone can pay, nor does everyone need to.  All Members are valuable, and add greatly to the site--paying and non-paying.

BuLLet, the Sarge got it correct--I am sure not saying the site WILL go away if you don't join.  I'm only saying there is less chance of it if our Hosts do not have to come up with thousands a month, on top of the normal headaches intrinsic to having this behemoth.  I can't say it better than Sgtar15:
