[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Area 51 (Page 1 of 2)

I just fished a book titled 'Area 51' by Annie Jacobsen. Anybody else read this?
"This is a work of nonfiction,' she writes, ' the stories I tell in this narrative are real." Hmmm, I say. While most of the book seems plausible, and it was an interesting read, her explanation of the Roswell crash seems even more far-fetched than aliens. I don't want to lead off with a big spoiler, so for now I'll just ask whether anyone else has read the book and would like to offer some thoughts. |

Quoted:
There are hundreds of books on Area 51 If there ever was any remains of alien craft or alien beings at Area 51, they are long gone. Area 51 may be testing new technology but it is used as a distraction and a source of disinformation. If there are any materials of extra-terrestrial origin, they are likely being held at Wright Patterson in Dayton Ohio. |

He never did give up some of those secrets |

My company has done some work at Wright Patt and I still golf occasionally with a couple colonels there. We don't talk about things they can't talk about but I have been told that there are things on base "that I would not believe". Additionally, there are literally miles of underground facilities and several "levels" at Wright Patterson that no one without clearance ever sees. |

| I remember going to a church father, son pancake breakfast with my dad where the speaker was some guy who went on about flying saucers. One of the dads stapled two paper plates together to make a saucer shape and threw it at the speaker. The 70s were a different time. |

Keep looking over here (area 51), while we do real work over here (somewhere else).
I have no idea what is out there, or where it came from. But I think the whole idea of aliens at Area 51 is a great government distraction. Keep the people focused on an area that is in use, but no as sensitive as you let on. |

Once you've got a solid-state transistor, the conceptual leap to the IC is not very big. Lots of technical challenges, but nothing insurmountable. Just because most people aren't that bright doesn't mean that ALL people are like that .

All kinds of super secret shit has been housed at groom lake, but I doubt any of it was alien. Can you imagine what you'd think if somehow you got a look at Have Blue in 1977? It would look like nothing you'd ever even imagined could fly. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0d/DARPA_USAirForce_HaveBlue.png Obviously the only logical conclusion is aliens |

Can you imagine the uproar if a church tried to have a father-son event today?

Ok, I'll go ahead and spill it. Her sources indicate the crash was a soviet project based on nazi technology. In particular, the Horten bomber, and that it was piloted by children disfigured by the work of joseph mengele. That it had intercontinental, high-speed and hover technology and was supposed to throw the U.S. public into panic while goosing Eisenhower in the process.
So, where is all that soviet technology today? Unless the cold war is continuing, unbeknownst to any of us, on the dark side of the Moon, I don't buy it. She does write at length about government deception, in the manner of a shell game. Lies upon lies until even the path to the truth is obscured. By the way, I have no problem with that where the secrecy needs are legit. |

I bet the Russians can keep secrets better than we can. They do not play nice when it comes to people leaking secrets. |

My wife's stepfather worked at Area 51 for 30 years as a pipe fitter.
I asked him a couple of times what was out there when he was drinking, hoping that the alcohol would loosen his tongue. He always said the same thing. "If I talk about what I saw there, they will take my pension and I go to prison". They must put the fear of God into the guys that work there as contractors. |

Wright Pat houses the group in the Air Force that did medical experiments as relating to flight (and space travel).
It stands to reason that if any extraterrestrial remains were found they would be sent to Wright Pat. The medical group of the Air Force was quite busy in the period directly following the war. One important question was if an organism could survive, for instance, a rocket launch into near space and naturally the return. We experimented on many different types of animals loaded into captured V2 rockets. The discovery of the Van Allen radiation belts raised an important question. Would the exposure to radiation be lethal? Van Allen, incidentally, was on the board of scientists that decided what experiments would be flown on the (naturally limited) supply of captured V2 rockets. The late 40s were an exciting time at White Sands. Consider that in 1947 on one side of a mountain range in New Mexico there were top secret tests of captured V2 rockets (and Operation Paperclip). On the other side of that mountain range was Roswell, NM. It was home to one of the most sensitive bomber units in the US arsenal. That was the home base of the bomber group that dropped the A bombs on Japan. I doubt either side of the mountain range did much talking to each other. Not all of the V2s that were launched were recovered. Hell, we even managed to hit Mexico with one of them (oops). Security at Roswell was naturally quite high. They had it set to Maximum Force Volume 11. So, examine the Roswell "myth". Eyewitness testimony is pretty sketchy in the best of days, and it gets pretty downright shaky years after the fact. Did something crash to the North of Roswell on that ranch? Possible. Would Roswell AF have investigated? Certain. Would Roswell have been knowledgeable about what was going on at White Sands? I don't know, but I doubt it. Connect that with some of the more amusing anecdotes about Roswell. The undertaker who was supposedly approached by the AF requesting several child size coffins, for instance. I wonder if that could have happened- but the bodies in question were monkeys (remember- they were possibly radioactive or infected with space germs) that landed poorly in a V2 test. Burn the hair off of a Rhesus and you get something that sure does look like a classic "alien". So if you take some of the recollections at face value (or at least with more than your USDA daily allowance of salt) some of the stories could be true...but the timelines could be way off. I don't think we started to bomb the southwest with flaming monkeys until 1948-49 or even 1950. All of this is from memory, and it is fallible but that is my take. It doesn't mean I wouldn't love to know what is at Wright Pat if anything. I would guess I would be disappointed. Darn BBQd monkeys and shit. |

Good post and the best explanation that I've seen over the years yet. I never knew what to believe regarding Area 51 and what was supposedly there. But reading your post makes me feel confident that there are likely no alien bodies, ET UFOs, etc... and that the disinformation thing was all just cover for the REAL top-secret defense programs going-on there. |
