a few years ago I bought "floor model" Troy Bilt PW with a Honda GX160 motor. I bought it during the summer and had more projects on my plate and never used it. Winter comes stuffed it away in the shed spring comes and want to use it and nothing. Got pissed off put it away again and forgot about it. Someone told me if I put ATF into the pump it might loosen them up. No dice. I don't want to put out another $120 for a new pump on a PW that's only worth $250. Anyone rebuild or have any other ideas? |

Sounds like you have a decent engine and apparently cart body - you may be able to get a new pump that pushes more gpm(gallons per minute) thereby making your washer more efficient and powerful.
I have always heard its gpm and not psi that dictates cleaning power. I purchased a brand spanking new mtm, Honda gx motor and 2 new gray non marking hoses, stainless wand, aluminum cart body--light duty commercial washer not the home owner bs at Home Depot but a real deal nice pressure washer for a song at a pawn shop--promptly went home, checked the crankcase oil - fine then checked the pump and the dip stick looked oily but soon found out that I was running it dry - burnt that brand new pump up. Dumb ass. Anyway after being pissed off and letting that mfer sit for a few months finally got it fixed with a higher 3 gpm comet pump with some sort off back pressure by pass valve and that thing kicks ass. I helped a friend pressure wash his dock and he has some burly 9hp Honda washer and mine was hanging with him no problem. He was thinking his heavy weight set up was gonna set the pace - he was wrong little light weight spunky held its weight. |

i have one, its a husky brand, same prob. pump died, brought to a shop told me it wasnt worth the money to fix it [ washer cost about $220] looked on ebay found a brand new pump for $32 shipped, took less than 10 minutes to install..... This. I had the same pump as the OP. They are not worth fixing. Buy the replacement pump. You can do better than $120 by looking around a little. You'll wind up with a better pump than you had. |
