Anyone still take part in this program? I still try to do it when I have actual cash money in hand to do it with. I write SUPPORT THE SECOND AMENDMENT on the long edges of each bill. On the short edges I write SECOND AMENDMENT. Takes only a few seconds, and can literally spread the message to HUNDREDS of people.....

I don't know if it's true or not (especially considering the source), but NY Times said that the NRA sold stamps that said "GUN OWNER" for NRA members to (their words) "illegally deface" paper bills.  They had quotes from a senator (if I remember correctly) and a group of governors that were demanding the Secret Service arrest the NRA board members for this "crime."  Can anyone confirm this story as true or urban legend?  I've been burned before by the Times.

I like the idea, but I think the phrase "GUN OWNER" might be better.z

I have a $1.00 bill that has '[red]GUN OWNERS[/red]' stamped in red on the front side!

It's done pretty nicely, so it looks to be from someone who is on a mission.

Trouble is, it's the only one I've ever seen!

I registered it at wheresgeorge.com, but since I will likely never put it back into circulation, I don't think registration will mean much in this case!

interesting, I've never heard/seen this before.

how can they enforce a "law" agin' an item that itself is "illegal"?

It's only "real" money cause the Gov says it is. Also, keep in mind that FDR was not the first president to take us away from specie and try fiat money. Adolf Lincoln did the same in the 1860s. (People hoarded specie so badly that POSTAGE STAMPS were used for small change.)

Mail it to me and I'll enter it into wheresgeorge.com and mail it back to you.  Better yet, we could mail this around to all the afrcommers and get the Gun Owner bill way up there!

is the stampto the left of the pres? with the owners tward the top? and the s is in fact a $? small space between r and $?

if so it was mine, cant see how it made it that far, but wierder shit happens. OTOH i have never seen one of my stamped bills again, and i have stamped literally thousands of dollars.

Yes, indeed, the_survivalist, this bill appears exactly as you say.

The 'S' at the end of 'GUN OWNERS' is actually a Dollar sign ($), and it is placed to the left of Pres. Washington's face, right above the Seal, and below the 'This Note is Legal Tender' notice.

There is no small space between the 'R' and the '$', however. It's fairly spaced with the other lettering.

Sounds as if it's one of yours!

Well, small world, eh?

nope not one of mine. when i stamp em, the writing is vertical, so that as you read the writing, the president is under the stamp. but there are something like 3000 stampers that i have heard of doing the same thing.

its not the type of stamp that you can get off the shelf, goto yore local Staples, or another office supplie store, and order one. you can get em any way you want em, but use red ink, it stands out more..

i have been thinking of getting another one with

Marking a bill is NOT illegal.  I'll get to the specific reference later but defacing a bill is only illegal if it is done with the intent to defraud.

For example, changing a $1 bill to look like a $10 bill (if someone could) WOULD be illegal.

Simply marking on a bill is not "intent to defraud."

This idea comes up about once every 6 months on one gun board or another. It's interesting, but I'm not sure that most people are going to derive any useful message from the words "gun owner". Stamping something actually educational might be a better idea:

"...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. — 2nd Amendment"

Not a lot of folks actually know that the 2nd Amendment exists, let alone what rights it affirms.

Naturally, a message this long would either require a large stamp or small print, but I still think it's practical.

DO NOT GET ONE THAT SAYS AR15.COM!

Would it be possible to make a spreadsheet or an excel program or something so it would print the S.A. around the edges of the bill?  Kind of like you use for putting addresses on envelopes?

Wouldn't work with most ink-jet printers (ink smears if it gets wet). Don't know of many laser printers that will accept a dollar-bill-sized sheet of paper.

A rubber stamp is cheap and easy to use... but what's the best message to put on it?

First time I heard of a thing like this was a couple years ago some gay rights group doing a similar thing.  Anybody remember what they were writing on the bills?  It was a pretty benign statement that conveyed they idea those people spent money.

It's only illegal if the stamps are being sold by AR15.com, because the Gov considers that "using legal tender for advertising purposes". That is why http://www.wheresgeorge.com got into trouble. They were selling the stamps for peopel to mark the bills they were tracking. SS said that constituted using the bills for advertising.....

Those GUNOWNER$ dollars could be the products of Concealed CArry, Inc. here in Illinois. We started stamping a couple years ago.......not sure how many of us still  do it.

www.concealcarry.org/rubberstamp.htm

Those of you who live in big cities may remember seeing dollar bills that were stamped GAY DOLLAR. This was to remind everyone of the buying power of the gay community. This made a lot of people wise up that at least they better be nice to gays if they didn't want so suffer economic consequences. These stamps (among other actions) also raised the visibility of gays to a level not known before. In any case, you see the result. In Illinois you have a Republican governor trying to pass a gay rights bill. Members of his closest staff are openly gay. Gun owners? Not a one in sight...at least not one who'll admit to it. Gun Rights? Sure, Governor Ryan will be happy to take them away! HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED!

So, we are starting our own version of the GAY DOLLAR -

These stamps are perfect for marking legal and tender things. The GAY DOLLAR was a huge success, I hope GUN OWNER$ will be too! can we duplicate that success? Gonna take a lot of stamps! You can get a stamp Easy!

Go to your local Office Supply shop and tell them to make a stamp that says GUN OWNER$ in 14 Point Helvetica Bold Font. If you get a self-inking stamp request red ink.

If you would...pass this on to other lists that may be interested in participating in our little act of rebellion.
