Why is the clock on my computer, Sony VAIO desktop, losing time? so for in the past month it's not keeping accurate time at all.

Check your manual and see if there is a bettery on your computer motherboard. You may need a new one.

The clock on computers suck.  It is more concerned with synchronizing tasks internally than keeping accurate time.

Here is a decent short article on the subject and the program that I use to correct it...  It's free.

If you have Windows XP or 2000, you can tell your computer to adjust its time with the US Time Server, i.e. the Atomic Clock in Boulder, Colo.

If you have any previous versions of Windows, there's a program called "SyncIt with Atom", written by some guy in Finland. http://www.tolvanen.com/syncit/

I'm sure there are similar tools for Linux-based OSs and for Macs, too.

What OS do are you running?  If XP, double click on your clock and select the "Internet Time" tab.  If Win2K you can use "net time" to sync with an Internet NTP server.  I use www.time.gov for most of my time reference info.  As mentioned, SyncIt is another good solution.

Computers are very bad at keeping time.

I use Dinension 4 once a day to update the clock.  I could use my timex, but that takes too long.

Every day, the update detects a 5-7 second discrepancy and corrects it.
