Recently I re-install my OS, Windows 2000 Pro.  I did not format the partition prior to re-install.  Now when I use my browser, IE, I can only open one browser at a time.  If I try too open a second window the first browser window closes, the even happens when I click on a link.

Any ideas on how to fix this?  Am I missing a setting somewhere?

try: Tools, Internet Options, Advanced (tab), Browsing settings...

I'm on '98 now, and can't check or remember specifics, but this should be the right place to look.

Tools/Internet Options/Advanced - Unselect the "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" option.

There's a whole list of suggestions in this thread:

Maybe one of them would work.

Otherwise, more details about your version of IE and any Service Packs applied would be helpful.  Also more details about what does and does not work.  (e.g., you say clicking on a link crashes the browser.  Does any link do that or only a link that would open in a new window?)

1. Set your IE back to default setting.
2. Or you can always hold down your "Shift" key while clicking on a link - it will open a new browser window.
