| Ok so I went local GS to look at some 1911s. Looked at a TRP and the guy told me it was Standard FBI issue. Then I went and looked at a Standard M1A. Same guy acted like I was stupid and told me "thats an M1A not a Garand" right after I asked to look at the M1A. He then said that the Marines have all gone back to using the M1A. |

| Reminds me of the time I went to a notorious gun shop in Greenville, SC -- the owner, one of these know it all condescending types, told me that there was zero difference between 556 and 223 ammo. After arguing with him for all of about 10 seconds I remembered you can't cure stupid and left. |

Hyatts is ok but they have some dumbasses in there, my mom went in one day when we were looking for a 1911 for her and they kept trying to sale her on a 9mm. I just laughed and shook my head as she has been carrying a CCO 1911 or 5in 1911 for the last 15years. |

This happened a few years ago in my LGS where I was stationed.
I heard a customer ask the guy behind the counter about a shotgun for homer self defense. The counter guy brings out a Mossberg 500 12 gauge no stock and hands it to the guy. The guy looks at it and says "it's bad-assed looking, but looks are not what's going to scare away the bad guys". The counter guy looks at him, then looks at me and gives me that "Forget it, he's on a roll look". The customer then says "The noise when I rack the shotgun will be enough to scare the bag guy away". Then the customer racks the shotgun. Right when he starts racking the shotgun I give out a yell and then say in my outside voice "Don't do that, you scared the crap out of me". The counter guy starts laughing, the customer gets pissed and hands the shotgun back to the counter guy and storms off. |

Not everyone that works in a gun shop actually knows about guns. This I'm pretty new to the gun scene (didn't even know ARs were legal until three years ago)... I have been shooting since I was 5, but can't say I know much overall. My wife tells me I should work occasional part time at a LGS, I know if I did, I would be the guy in all of these stories lol. |

Not everyone that works in a gun shop actually knows about guns. This and I work in one. If I don't know I will gladly tell you. Customers will continue to ask and I will continue to tell them that I don't know and don't want to spread "misinformation" but will gladly let them look at the catalog and the instructions so they can figure it out themselves. I especially like the legal questions, I AM NOT A LAWYER. I generally try to not be a dick, but every man has his limitations. |

I look younger and have always had a hard time in gun shops getting decent service.
I have an FFL that does $15 xfers, no matter how many at one time. I don't even step foot in the shop, even to look at guns. If I buy something I don't end up liking, I'll just keep it and let my buddies shoot it when I go to the range. I still think I'm way ahead on what I've paid vs their rip off prices the fat neckbeards are selling them for. Oh, and I frequent an outdoor range, not affiliated with a gun shop, so I"m not a hypocrite who shoots and won't buy..... |
| I have been going to a local shop since I was 16. This shop has been around since the 1970s and ran by a dad and son. They are good people. I hate shops that try and sell you tactical shit from china they always seem to think they know every thing there is to know about guns when they really don't know a dam thing. |
|
Sadly, even the industry partner that is local to me has these types of sales people working the counter. Like the counter monkey that cant hunt with a 243 because it gets deflected by a leaf. My favorite is the sales person that asks "why would anyone want/need one of these?"
Go fudd yourself and let me buy what I want. |

It's a long shot, but he might have been thinking of the Walther TPH, which is a .22 pistol. Well I prefaced it with saying a Springfield Armory TRP. So doubt any confusion, just didn't know guns.

Well I prefaced it with saying a Springfield Armory TRP. So doubt any confusion, just didn't know guns. I really don't expect a gun shop employee to know everything about guns or every model off the top of their head. What I really appreciate is an employee who isn't afraid to admit they DON'T know something but be willing to find somebody who does AND can simply exhibit proper safety protocols when handling firearms even if they "know" they are not loaded. Also, don't try and talk "tactics" if you don't know what you are talking about and when a woman comes into the store don't immediately direct her towards the lightweight .38spl revolvers, the pink Kel-Tec or the .22 rimfire pistols telling her those are the "lady guns". |

If you want to troll a LGS ask if they have any S&W M&P revolvers. I'll bet 2/3rds of them never heard of one though there were millions produced.

M&P Revolvers Sure you don't work in a gun shop? |

and then point at some hi-end AR(JP in this case) but then I ask about ammo.
We have'nt had any since last year.
