I was just looking through my checkbook balance and compared it to the statement you get monthly from the bank.I usually don't balance my checkbook very much, but I will now. I went up to the bank and talked over the difference between my book and thiers. There was a $6000.00 difference in my favor!I hadn't balanced my checkbook the whole year(and my bank pays me interest on the balance in my checkbook)
That was my pleasant surprise for today.

Whats the most amount you guys have been off on your checkbooks when you balanced them?

How much fvcking money do you need to have before you don't notice when 6 grand goes missing? Geez, every time I think I'm doing OK someone comes along with something like this...

There is no way there is ever 6K in my checking. Money in excess of the monthly bills needs to be earning better interest than that. I play my account very close to $0.

I was off some 2,000 once when I balanced by checkbook.

Quickly spotted the problem... I forgot to add a paycheck deposit [:)]

Now that I'm STILL going thru a friggin divorce, I live paycheck to paycheck.. so the above mentioned deal will never happen soon enough!

$6000.00 in your favor?

Damn, why can't I make that kind for mistake.

FWIW, I use Quicken and download/reconcile my transactions online. I haven't been off by even a single .01 in over four years.

Someone did a bank wire from my account for $3750.  I'm glad I caught the mistake.  PS: I normally don't reconcile my book, but I guess I'll start checking again. [:D]

Balance the checkbook? What's that? I figure if they think I have more money than I think I have, I'm cool.

I generaly check my account at least once a week via the internet. Two weeks ago I wrote a check for $75 dollars to someone and the dumb girl at the bank keyed in the wrong amount. My account ended up being $435 dollars short. It pays to check it from time to time.

Temporary error that the bank made, for which I was not entitled to keep......$4,444,440.99.

Interbank transfer of some sort wired to my account.  I never even noticed it until I got the official memo stating it happened, then got my account notice and saw it in and out, this was back when I was 16........it was cool.  [:D]

I remember those days. Having enough money so that an accurate, regular accounting was not needed. Then my daughter started college.

I have never balanced a check book in my life. I always paid my bills quarterly. It is  strange that most companies just dont like to get paid every 90 days. It worked for me, I had to pay late fee's but I really got to know some nice people in the collection dept's. I always paid my bills and would never carried any debt over to my next payment cycle

I married a CPA and she had to get over this fact before she could say she loved me. She handles the bills, she knows were every penny of interest and profit is. Needless to say with a mind like hers we never Find OR Lose money.

I dont know if I have 500.00 or 1000.00 in checking. I do know she will not let money sit in the checking account because of the poor interest rate.

In my past life I had a couple or three thousand in there that I wasnt sure about. Six is VERY NICE

I no longer have to balance the checkbook.  I use MS Money to pull all of the info from my bank and Discover card.  As long as my M$ Money balance = my checking account balance, all is well.
