In this thread we will discuss your first experience with breaking a bone. Which bone was it and how did it happen? Go. |

Toe but that was based on my medical expertise as a teenager. Never saw a doc. Could've just been a bad jam but it sure looked ugly. Ran into a chair leg chasing my little bro. I was gonna kick his ass for something but can't remember what.
For sure break was two bones in my right middle finger resulting in a dislocation, tendon and ligament tears. That one required surgical repair. Broke it bowling in high school. |
| Femur, 16, slolom watersking. There was a high speed impact, the ski twisted the femur until it exploded. The local ER ortho was talking amputation. Then my parents got a second opinion. A doctor who just returned from Vietnam. He said "pffftttt, I can fix that". Years later I am doing triathlons at 59. |

Hot make-up in a j-box. Wires slipped through the fingers on my left hand; grounded on my right. Hung up and hurting; leaned back and took a 14' fall. Ladder caught my legs and twisted me head down. Fractured wrists, knocked out two teeth, and bit through my lower lip(8 stitches). Happened in '95-'96... so I was about 20-21.

Collar Bone. I was 7 or 8 years old. Chasing my brother down a steep bank that was wet and I was barefoot running like hell. Slipped and fell forward and landed on my shoulder. Heard a loud snap and then started to hurt like hell.
Wore a full upper body cast all summer long...... sucked ass. Was the first of more than a few broken bones for me. |

Left forearm, must have been around age 1 but we don't know for sure as I couldn't talk yet to tell mom it hurt. But it was caught on an x-ray for some other injury but the doc said it had almost healed. I am sure in this day and age my mom probably would have been under suspension for child abuse Right femur age 2 1/2 spent several weeks in traction and had a body cast on for several more weeks. Lived in Tampa Florida at the time. It was kinda rank when the cast came off I feel sorry for my mom. I was the broken bone kid and my brother was all about stitches!

right femur, five years old.
One of my older brothers tripped me, it really was an accident, he didn`t mean to, oldest bro did not know it was broken, made me put weight on it so`s i could walk home. it pushed the ends closer together. The docs wouldn`t show the X-rays to Momma, but told her that leg would probably end up shorter. Traction worked, legs are the same. left arm broken twice, playing. left hand recently broken, fell playing tennis. fractured coccyx, motorcycle wreck in 76. ol scruff is ol....... |
| Some sort of lower back fracture when I was about 9 or 10. Never told my parents. Just couldn't run for the whole summer. Didn't join any sports that summer either. Told them I didn't feel like playing. I figured they had enough worries without worrying about me. Still bothers me a bit but it's been over 50 years now. |
Radial head (elbow) when I was 19. Slipped and caught myself with my right arm fully locked out. Had a party to go to that night so I didn't go to the doctor until the next morning. . Worst part about it was trying to straighten my arm and flip my hand palm up for the xray. Eta: I'm sure I fractured fingers numerous times playing football in middle and high school, but I didn't get X-rays for them. |

First time, skiing in Austria, the classic boot top spiral fracture of tibia and fibula. In the early 70's before bindings technology improved to solve this problem. Surgery to wire the pieces together, then tonsillectomy before removal of wires. Then started road-racing motorcycles in the late 80's. Broke a lot of stuff, on a regular basis. |
