Post your worst range experiences here. Whether it be a**hole RSO's or whatever. I'll probably catch flak here in GD so

Semi-private range here in TN. The range was cold, we were out setting up targets, SUV pulls up with a family full of retards that immediately pull out ARs and start shooting downrange at the targets we were setting up (we were still downrange).
Thank god those idiots couldn't aim worth shit. |

A good case of the WTF's, wow. |

About the only consistent problem at the rifle range nowdays are inconsiderate shooters with muzzle brakes and shooters to either side of them. They usually get set straight pretty quickly. Im thinking about building a one sided muzzle brake to blow the entire muzzle blast into the face of an adjacent shooter (for the slow learners). |
|
Several years ago I was shooting at a members only range near Waco, Texas. (Not Tiger Valley). I was on an extended job so I joined. One afternoon I was shooting on the 300yd range. Several groups arrived after me and they all set up on the 50yd range. Several lanes apart. While people were shooting 20 feet away - on both sides of them, some fuckhead sent his 10-12 year old kid down range to put up a target. If that wasn't vapid enough...nobody stopped shooting. This kid was just strolling downrange with nary a care in the world...and people were shooting past him on both sides. ![]() I ran down there and broke red on everybody. I was ready to kick some major ass, I mean I was pissed. ![]() They all acted like I was crazy for having an issue with endangering the kid and not ceasing fire. ![]() I came very near tearing that 'father's' head off for being such a dumbass. My shit was spooled up and I went straight to the bar and had a stiff drink. Fucking morans. ![]() |

Quoted: I have a great time at the range. Everyone is safe, courteous and helpful. NC Gun People are fucking Awesome. In fact AZ Gun people are awesome. GA Gun folks are great from my experiance as were the LA shooters. They are unless you go to a public range a week before hunting season starts.

The worst ones were the suicides. I worked at a gunshop with a range. We had about 6 I think, 1 was an employee. |

Indoor range. A bachelor party of hoodie gangstas came in and all got rentals, and made me wish I had level III and a helmet, or maybe armor plate around the booth. Muzzles everywhere, shooting the ceiling even. The RO realized their mistake and called repeated "range cleanup" I think to try to just get rid of them.

Go to a shooting range and be bothered by muzzle blast? Try not going to shooting ranges or even better, don't shoot a gun. Should clear that muzzle blast problem up pretty quickly. |

I know brakes can be annoying, but that's like going to a race track and complaining about the people speeding. |

Im thinking about building a one sided muzzle brake to blow the entire muzzle blast into the face of an adjacent shooter (for the slow learners). Saturday, I was shooting indoors beside a guy with a tricked out 16 inch barreled AR with what looked like a Surefire brake/suppressor mount. That was the first time I was disturbed by such a setup. Holy shit, the blast came right across my face and it felt like my teeth were pinballing around. I had plugs and muffs, I couldn't imagine playing that game without earpro. Meh, he was fast, so I just backed up until he went into the reloading phase to do my work. |

I was recently shooting my SCAR 17 at 200 yds at my club, it was cold and there was only one other guy there with hunting clothes and a pump shotgun. Yes he was a fudd. He came over to my bench and remarked "that barrel dosn't look 16 inches long." I patiently explaned that despite the AAC flashider, this barrel was indeed 16 inches long. Then he starts in with "What's so great about that thing" "It looks dangerous" As I'm focusing my spotting scope. I shut him up by saying "Range Hot" and immediately opened fire.
After taking a break and talking later, he found out I was a hunter too and we bonded over the recent crappy firearms deer season. From now on, I'll respond with questions about my Barrel Length with "I dunno, perhaps you should call the police and we can find out?" |

| Me and my brother rented a bay at a popular range near us for a couple hours. They assigned us to the 50yrd bay. It had steel up so my brother loaded a mag of 9mm and got after it. He shoots 3 gun there all the time. The RO was sitting about 60yrds from us watching the whole time. When bro was done, the guy comes screaming up on his cute golf cart. "You guys can't shoot steel out here!" "I'm going to have to take your guns". My brother had just loaded another mag. RO started to reach for my bros gun. Turned into a stand off for about a min. Neither one of them drew their pistols but had their hands on them. We then came to an agreement that no stupid shit was about to happen. RO was supposed to take down the steel before we showed up. 2 other bays were popping steel so we assumed we were good to go. We all went back to the front desk and apologized and were educated. Been fine ever since. Haven't seen that RO in a while. Rumor has it he may have been a problem in the past as well. |

What did the RSO say? Quoted:

I was once asked to decock my holstered 1911 (the range allows holstered firearms) by an RSO. I asked him if he would like me to point it down range and decock it one round at a time ![]() What did the RSO say? I tried to explain single action to him and it went right over his head. Kid looked about 16. The RM got a pretty good laugh out of it when I asked to speak to him. Came back a few weeks later and the kid was long gone. |

Went to the local range with some family members to take a CC class. Afterwards we decided to rent a Desert Eagle .50 to have some fun with.
My brother fired the gun twice and got a fail to fire on the third round. Not being overly familiar with the handgun, He decided not to attempt to clear the round himself. He set the gun down (facing downrange) and called over a RSO. Meanwhile, I am in the next stall firing my handgun. This is an indoor range with sheetrock dividers. RSO comes over and starts dicking around with the gun. Never calls a cease-fire. All of a sudden my family members pull me out of the stall. Turns out this dipshit turned the Desert Eagle towards me on the other side of the wall and was attempting to clear the round by forcefully racking the slide. All the while, the safety was off and the magazine was still inserted. |

The dad with his kid, the kid is at the line with a semi auto pistol. I am next stall over, but standing behind my friend who is at the line. A case ejects and gets stuck between the kids head and his eyo pro. Kid frantically grabs at his glasses with both hands, pistol in hand, finger on trigger sweeping EVERYTHING. I thought, man, that could have been really bad. |

I shot at an under ground range in West VA one time. They had three "lanes". I think 50 yards long.
The "lanes" were nothing more than small 2' diameter maybe tunnels dug in the ground. You told them when target you wanted and at what distance, and some kid rand out and put them through a hole in the ground after a few minutes. So unless you had a spotting scope, you were left to squint in the dim light tunnel to see where you were hitting. They had some tube lights in the booths, and chicken wire around them. My SKS launched an empty that shattered a light and rained glass and florescent light powder on me. I went up and told them, and after about 10 minutes, someone came in and put a new light in. Not even a "sorry about that". I laugh at the stupidity of that range setup now.

| I went to this particular range with friend who had just purchased his first firearm, a Kimber 1911. I went to the rifle side and shot for a while before gathering up my rifle and seeing how my friend was doing. Gave him a few pointers, helped him fix his grip. He asked if I wanted to try out his gun. I said sure. Now, his target at 7 yds was fairly well littered with holes, no discernible group, however there were several areas on the target that were clean. I took aim at the number 5 about 7" off center on a 24" target. I proceeded to shoot one jagged hole about 1 1/2" higher than my POA. after about 4 shots, this fat assemblage of human excrement formed to resemble an actual person RO comes running over screaming at me to only fire at the center of the target. Now my friends target was littered with holes, many across the center, but many out towards the edge of the target. The target next to use had no shots in the center, and I believe that they were missing the target with every 4th shot or so, but my one hole slightly off center merited running toward me screaming. I packed up left and never returned, which is unfortunate because this range has the only 100yd rifle range in the Miami area. |

Never really had anything bad happen.
I was at a range a few years ago and I was the only guy with an AR on the line. The Shotgun Range that is beyond the berm of the Rifle Range was complaining about getting peppered with fragments. So the RO goes around checking everyone's targets to see if they are hitting their targets at 100 yards. I hear a FUDD down the line grumble about the "guy with the assault rifle at the end" So the RO comes straight to me. Checks my targets, asks me to shoot a few rounds. I put three rounds on the pie sized paper at 100 yards, he looks and says nope not you and moves on. He never found anyone that was off their target. Not a major deal but it was funny to hear the old FUDD immediately blame the guy with the "assault rifle". |

I got yelled at for not standing with my dick in my hand for 6 seconds after each trigger squeeze. No really, after the one indoor ranged KABOOM'ed, they started some bullshit where there had to be a 6 second pause between shots. ![]() I stopped going there after that. |

It's usually the FUDD with cokebottle glasses and a scope the size of the Hubble on their revolver that's hitting other people's targets, in my experience. |
I'm a volunteer RSO on the public line when I'm pressed into service at my private club. On one such occasion, I was working the pistol line and while the line was hot, a middle-aged gentleman and his spouse flagged me down. I asked "so to clarify, you are a gun range and are bothered by the gunfire going on around you and want me to ask this guy to keep it down?" And the guy was all like, precisely. I told him I couldn't do that and offered him a refund which he gladly accepted and left. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. The guy next to him was shooting a G17.

| Latest bad range experience: A few months back my GF and I went to a public range. There was a 70 year old guy there with his 20 year old toothless white trash GF. Both of them were drunk and he was teaching her to shoot while he grabbed her ass every few minutes. It was the first time the drunk chick had ever fired a gun. I was a nervous wreck trying to keep an eye on them as we tried to get some range time. After about 30 minutes I told my GF we needed to get out of there before we get shot. |

The muzzle flash from one of my pistols set fire to some powder and paper that was inside the wall. It was a decent little fire. I ran out looking for an extinguisher to no avail and ran upstairs to the desk and they didn't seem to care their building was potentially on fire. |

FUDD walks over as I am locking my can onto my 8" barrel UMP SBR
"That barrel doesn't look 16 inches" "It isn't as its 8"- that's why I have to put the suppressor on it. It makes it legal then as the suppressor is 9" so that's 17 inches overall." <FUDD looks confused> "Oh ok.. yeah yeah... I forgot about that..." <Walks back to his lever action 30-30> Yes- I have my stamps. |
