They apparently copper foul so bad that after a mag they just stop working.

that's the conversation i just had with a co-worker. I guess he read it on the internet somewhere from someone who is in the military so "he knows what hes talking about".

At what point do you just give up trying to help people?

I own both BTW and both have worked great. For the average shooter i don't think one or the other is going to make a damn bit of difference.

Offer to take the whole project off his hands for a fair price for his inferior, sub-par components.

This is so true! I cannot count the number of times this is happen to me!
By the way Chromoly barrels require proper disposal as they are contaminated this normally cost over a $100 a barrel .

But out of the goodness of my heart I will take it for free and get rid of the junk.

I tell most folks that if they maintain their gun it won't matter all that much except maybe for barrel longevity.  And most people will never shoot out a barrel anyway.

All of those Garands must be completely useless too since they aren't chrome lined.

Keep insisting that this is correct.
Bring it up every chance you get.

Say it with a solemn face and a heavy sigh, while slowly shaking your head.

See how long it takes for his head to es'plode..........

Interesting.  All of my target rifles have chrome moly barrels.  Some of them only get cleaned once per year.  I have a .22 with a chrome moly barrel that has only been cleaned once.  When I got it new.

I think I may have cleaned the stainless barrel on my 3-gun AR two or 3 times in the past five years.  Still shoots sub-MOA.

People greatly overestimate how often barrels need cleaned.

That, and many times the "cleaning" process does more to wear the barrel than did the shooting that fouled it.

Simple enough to fix...

Good lord!  Please stop.

Chrome/Moly describes a steel alloy base material for the barrel (will eventually rust from the elements if not cared for).

Industrial chrome plate describes a thin plate added to military grade firearms (actually my old CZ-82 has it) to provide a wear resistant hard coating for bore and chamber.   One can chrome (chrome plate) a Chrome/Moly steel barrel, but the plating "builds" on the original surface and must be compensated for in the original bore.

Stainless steel:  Base barrel material is stainless steel (usually there is no coating or plating applied)

Industrial chrome plating is one of the hardest platings in the industry, and what you see after plating  is what you get.  It is not going to break in, lap in, wear in,  etc., so don't worry about it.

IMO, most of the precision shooters would rather have a non-chromed bbl (stainless or unplated steel) because they want to lap in the bbl with a break-in procedure, then keep it cleaned and oiled for subsequent use.

The whole "after a mag" thing is such a wide variable... 5 - 100 rounds.

Swedish steel is superior to any chromemolyvamidilum high carbon stainless known to man.  But it still fouls so bad I have to scrub it with a carbonite bore brush.

That's because the firer usually ended up dead from the "ping" before the thing even got warmed up.

Nitride that 4140 after break-in and a very thorough removal of any copper residue.
