| $45 unlimited talk, text, and data sounds interesting. Does anyone have experience with them? |
|
I had their T-mobile service. Worked fine except in certain areas of my town. Went to Net10 for AT&T tower use (same rate, same people), and it works even better.
ETA: No noticeable difference from the Net10 service to the AT&T service I used to have. My AT&T bill was $92 a month, Net10 $45 plus tax. You have to enroll in Net10's autodraft for the $45 rate, it's $50 otherwise. ETA: NET10 is AT&T service and StraightTalk I was on T-mobile service. |

Quoted: $45 unlimited talk, text, and data sounds interesting. Does anyone have experience with them? It's fucking awesome. Enough said. I bought an Iphone 4s off craigslist for around $200 or so then got the $8 SIM card from walmart.com. It's awesome... $45/mo for unlimited everything on AT&T's network, which is fairly good where I am located. The only major downside is you can't get the SIM cards for pre-owned Verizon phones. I would HIGHLY recommend it. Just make sure you EXACTLY follow the directions on the SIM card package. ETA: if you get a used Iphone, you've got to make sure it's unlocked. I don't care if you have to meet the seller at AT&T and walk into the store with them to double check (which is what I did).. you make damn sure the phone is unlocked or else I am not sure the new SIM will work. |
| This is third hand info: a coworker of mine has his oldest son use ST. He is really happy with and if he doesn't work enough for the card then he doesn't get access for the month. He flips phones pretty often and prefers androids, even bought my old galaxy s1. |

...2.5GB limit of unlimited data... I was looking at ST too. How can an unlimited plan have a limit? I also wish they made it clear that the $45 does not include all of the taxes and other charges. Data still works after 2.5GB, but you will go from LTE speeds to 2G. |
|
When I signed up they weren't yet advertising the limit.
That said, I have had zero issues with their service. I got a phone with the ATT map on the box and get exactly the same service as I did before switching. They ported my number for me too, 100% satisfied. |

I just went through an absolute clusterfuck of a month trying to save some money on my wireless bill by switching to ST. Fuck that jibba jabba. Here's me walking into AT&T. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/transformers-news-rumors/27319888d1347512186-beast-hunters-plans-new-beast-wars-machines-cartoon-toyline-shut-up-take-my-money.jpg What was the problem? |

Quoted: Anything similar on Verizon's network? Verizon works best in my area Yeah the Proclaim mentioned earlier works off the Verizon network. It's a good phone for what it is... it's definitely no Galaxy S3 or anything like that, but it works very well, is fast, reliable, and can hold lots of storage on a microSD card. I like it a lot. Would I rather have a nice S3? You betcha, but I'm not going to pay full price for one, and they don't allow you put SIM cards in for Verizon phones right now. That means you have to find an S3 used off craigslist, which is not impossible, but you will pay more since it has to be a used "Straight Talk" Galaxy S3 instead of just one of the many used Verizon S3's for sale out there. |

That being said, I've moved over two phones, and it was easy as pie, because I know what I'm doing and have good attention to detail. |

Part them and part me bing retarded when it comes to wireless phones. I have a friend that's a tmobile/HTC rep so he gave me a couple free HTC Ones. I ordered my SIM cards and ported my numbers in. Left the next morning for Port A and lost data service about 15 minutes from my house. Got spotty reception the entire trip, most times no bars whatsoever. Never got data back at all the whole trip. My parents were on page plus and they had bars most everywhere I had none. Chatted with a friend of mine that's a phone wiz and he said my phones may be locked. Paid some site to unlock my phones and found out they were a scam, so I had to cancel my credit card. Then paid another site $40 to unlock them. Didn't help. Talked to customer service while I was in Port A and they told me they couldn't guarantee service outside my home area. Call back when I get home. I think that's what they said anyways, they really no speaka the Engels. Went through a couple weeks with limited service, almost no data. Called customer service a couple times and usually they'd dick with it a few minutes and then tell me to call back in 24 hours. Last time I pressed the issue about them telling me that before and they basically cut me off. I dicked with it for about 2 weeks before I gave up and signed on with AT&T. My final opinion is that if you either buy their phones or know a good deal about wireless tech AND you live in a major metropolitan area and don't travel a lot then you'll be good so long as you understand that you will make concessions for that savings. It's not like post paid service. I understand a good deal of it was my problem but I guess I presumed they would be better at dealin with the less than inclined when it comes to phones. The service was sufficient in my area I suppose, though in my house I had a ton of dropped calls and walking in circles trying to find that sweet spot for clarity. There's probably a bunch I left out but that's what I remember. I've never been so grateful to pay full price for phones. |

Why would coverage and reception be different? |

They actually use ATT, Verizon and T-Mobile, you have to reasearch a little on which phones use which network before you buy. My wife just typed in our zip code on their website and they sent her a Tmobile phone instead of an ATT one, so she gets shitty service in our town, I get 4g most places except in the house, which didn't get it before I switched anyway. |

Why would coverage and reception be different? Yes and no. I think when you leave your home area it had more to do with roaming contacts and which towers will allow you to connect. You may be standing beside a tower but if it's not available through contact with your provider you won't get service from it. I talked to AT&T about their prepaid service since I have heard that they are tits in this area for coverage and even they told me yes you'll see improvement but it still won't be like contract service for the reason listed above. There's a reason it's twice as much. With my contact phones I get full bars and LTE in outlying areas I didn't get a bar of cell service with ST. Like I said, if you're good at figuring shit out with your phone and network settings or live in a more densely populated area, you might be good to go. I told my wife if we lived in downtown Austin, it might have worked out. On the outer edges of a metro area with frequent travel to dirt roadsville Texas, not no much. |
