I've got a pair of cheap cotton fruit of the looms I picked up a few years ago and usually only wear the lowers under jeans or cargo pants.
Figured I'd upgrade and buy myself a high quality pair for Christmas. Is cotton the way to go? |

Cotton is NOT the way to go. once it gets wet, it doesn't keep you warm anymore.

I like the cut of most of the C9 stuff at Target better. Kohls has some TekGear stuff that's decent too. Plus these brands are about 30% cheaper than the Nike brand. Quality-wise, it's pretty much the same shit. I mean that too, as I have several brands and I've had no problems with any so far. This stuff holds up. Some of the other brands I have are Russel, Champion, UnderArmor, and Head. All good. Do pay attention, because there are winter and summer versions of "performance wear". The winter stuff is thick and VERY warm, while the summer stuff is not... but as an underlayer it's still pretty good. Everyone has sales regularly, and it's always on end of season clearance too, so shop around. You can find Nike Pro Combat and Head stuff at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, if you have those stores. They'll be seconds, but usually fine. |

My wife practically lives at those places so ill tell her to check selection next time she's there and report back to me

I just picked up a top/bottom pair of these: Only used a few times, but I like them. I'll have to see how they do in really cold weather though

When I hunt, I usually wear the black ninja suit, long johns, polypro, jeans or fleece pants, and then overalls on the bottom.....same up top sans jeans/fleece pants obviously, and a heavy jacket. |

I bought these from Cabelas last year in complete top and bottom sets. Probably still have them if you look around. 3 different levels of protection. I have never even put on the black fleece lined set. The tan usually does the trick and the green is very warm down into the teens with regular jeans on. Hope it never gets cold enough around here for me to use the black set. Really comfortable and stay put!! Way cheaper than one set of U/A.

years ago i threw every pair i owned out. now ALL i wear are Carhartt flannel, or fleece lined pants!
i coulnt stand the multi layer, not moving, balls mis alingned , just uncomfortable as fuck. now my boys are lined in flannel softness, and warmth all day long, and unrestricted! |

I really don't like to feel constricted by clothing. Jackets tend to be the worst because I have really wide shoulders. Under armor +1 I have: Russel APX First Light Merino Under Armor 2.0 & 3.0 Russel APX stuff is like a synthetic silk. Dried real fast, good wind blocker, not terribly warm. Under armor 2.0 isn't terribly heavy, dried fast, over all good stuff. First light stuff is expensive, but very good. Dries the slowest out of them all however, if you get it wet. Under armor 3.0 is amazing. Best stuff in my opinion. |

Merino Wool - Check out Minus33, can get them on Amazon. About the best price I have found for merino wool long johns that are good quality.
Do not get cotton if you are planning on using these hiking or hunting, cotton absorbs water and losses its insulating ability. If you want to go synthetic my favorite (wearing some now as I type this as it is about 18 degrees outside and cool in the house) is Patagonia Capilene (As expensive as the Minus33 Wool, if not more so) |
