Quoted: Is a mortar round capable of detonating right out of the tube or does the fact that it's already defective when it mis-fires mean nothing can be trusted in a situation like that? |

I wouldn't have waited for that mortar to flop out of the tube before running my ass off. Many haji's getting blown up by their own rounds on youtube has formed this reaction in me. And I would have ran you over as I was screaming like a girl. Watching you scream would almost be worth the danger. |

In THEORY, the fuze needs to be subjected to the shock of firing to arm... Of course, in theory, theory and reality are equal :-) Me, as soon as it failed to fire, I would've been giving it some room... |

Anyone else disappointed it didn't blow the two pedophiles to bits? WTF?
He should have reached out and caught it and yelled "HOT POTATO!" Oops. I though they were religion of piece types.

Cool story bro time. We got a bunch of the old m83a3 60mm illum rounds. They are shit and have terrible range and many of them misfire. Fired one of the rounds and it made the most awful slow sound coming out of the tube then you could hear it going end over end. Our base was tiny. We said shit and yelled to the CO we had a short round. Got no pop out of it no illum and had to send a patrol in the AM to walk around the base quick to find it. No sign of it. It landed inside the base into a sand bag wall that was around our JP8 fuel blivet. Pulled it out carefully with a 550 noose around it took it out to the burn pit and put a single 5.56 round into it from about 100 meters away. It popped loud never been that close to one popping and burned hard on the ground. Had it popped into the fuel it may have lit it off or just burned up a huge douche bag of jp8 that would have then drenched our little base.
anyway cool story bro. Mortar rounds hurt. I would be more worried about the condition of all the other rounds on that carrier and how well they are stored. |

Running is good for one's cardiovascular health, even if it's not necessarily technically warranted. I wouldn't wait for technical clarification. Time me in the "run a mile and shit yourself" biathlon. |

While you can usually rely on the basic chemical properties of the explosive filler in terms of resisting shock, heat, friction, etc., once an explosive projectile comes flopping out the end of the barrel as a flaming piece of shit, it's pretty well anyone's game
One time we ended up ejecting a powder charge out of the fwd Mk45 that was near hot gun condition. That thing was over the rail and sinking into the Pacific Ocean literally within 7 seconds of the time I got on deck
