I would like to ask what you folks say to people who are not into target shooting?  I cannot say directly to them that I am into "target shooting" or "shooting".  If I was to say those, I might end up being misunderstood or misquoted and reported to the law. I might say I am into "plinking".  But they do not know what that is......and I will end up having to explain myself all over again.  "Plinking" is just shooting away ammos and is not necessarily target shooting.  Target shooting itself is a sport.  I guess there has to be a better terminology on what we do......

With all of these things that are going on...I would rather not advertise to folks that I am into target shooting or even relay that information over the internet or personal emails.  With Dear Leader and his Brown Shirts listening in to all  what we say.  Heck....you can never tell I might already be pinged that a drone is circling above me with a Hellfire zeroed in on me as we speak.  Or even MIBs outside my home listening in.........

Hmmm everything you have ever done has been documented by the government.

There are many who don't like the course America is on.

If you feel uneasy about opening a conversation about firearms........ Try opening a conversation about Obama Care.

If the person your conversing with thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread... move along.

If the person thinks government has overstepped it's boundaries... continue the conversation and allow them to open the dialog.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks,

Hobo

When people ask what I'm into hobby-wise, or what I like to do when I'm not working, I usually just say "shooting".  If they're interested they'll ask the followups - "What, hunting?  Target?".

That said - off to GD.

Thanks for moving the thread.

Conversations usually come up when friends or classmates talk about hobbies and stuff.  I get the thing that we would rather keep a low profile.

Did you ever have that feeling in your life, that someone was watching you?
He don't have no reason, that's right. but, still he's there watching you.
Someone is waiting just outside the door, to take you away.
Everybody knows just what he's there for, to take you away.

But, you don't know why he's been waiting.
But, you don't know why he's been waiting.
Spent too much time anticipating.
Spent too much time anticipating.

Did you ever think it could be you, that's just outside the door?
There's just one way to find out if it's true. so, what you waiting for?
Oh, get yourself together now, my friend, and step outside the pad.
If there's no one waiting for you there, my friend, I think you should be glad.

It's the only way to get the voices to stop.

I speak quite frankly about my shooting hobby. I find that I meet a lot of people who are also shooters or are interested in learning. I also take the opportunity to educate people who are ignorant on the subject and ignore the folks that just won't ever convert.

I've helped several people become safe gun owners. More into members of my gun club. Women are great to take shooting. They start off apprehensive but tend to finish up with a lot of confidence and a desire to progress. They see it isn't just something for their boyfriends or husbands. They learn that they can shoot as well or better than their men.

If we keep hiding we can't meet each other, demonstrate to people that shooters are just like them and recruit them into the fold.

I use the term "competitive shooting" rather than "target shooting" (though they are both one and the same in my mind -- and when you're not competing against other shooters, you call it "practice").

It just comes across as more legitimate, organized, structured, authorized, safe... and all those other warm fuzzy feelings that hoplophobic liberals use to suppress their internal logic engine.

I shoot NRA High Power, CMP M1 Carbine, and .22 Mini Palma. I tell non-shooters that it's ballistic golf. Form, position, technique, control, repeatability is everything. All that matters is getting the round inside the 10-ring.

It makes the Million Mommies slightly less hysterical and confrontational, and slightly more open minded and understanding.

Start going to matches. Then you can say you're a "competitive shooter." It sounds interesting and legit. Not just going to the rock pit and shooting gravel, which is what many people imagine when you say you like to shoot.
