Apologizes if this has come up before, I didn't see a topic on it when I did a search.  Has there ever been development of a rimfire .223 cartridge?  Just about all AWBs I can think of specifically talk about centerfire rifles, why hasn't there been any development on the rimfire end?  I'm sure there's something I'm missing on this as it seems too self-evident to not have come up before.  So educate me GD.

Impractical. If the ban is that bad buy kits and 80%'s

The pressure is too high for current rimfire tech, you'd need something new, which would probably be expensive.  Any firearm designed around centerfire tech would almost certainly have to be redesigned, including the mags that would presumably have been banned.

Even if all of the technical/cost hurdles were to be overcome, the anti's would just amend the AWB to remove the "rimfire" exemption. POOF! .22 LR firearms now banned just like their center-fire counterparts.

If they don't like the way something looks they'll try to ban it.
