Just put together my first AR. Used a Rock River lower and a J&T A2 standard 20" upper. Very pleased with the fit and feel, but I am wishing it had the barrel free floated. I noticed that J&T sells a 2-piece free float tube. Can this be installed on my upper without a lot of trouble? If so how? TIA |

I've replaced several for myself and friends. In order to do it properly you will need to get a barrel wrench to take the barrel nut off. If yuou want to add accessories you will need rails on the tube unless you want to drill and tap it. Here are the steps: Remove the current hand guard. Punch out the gas block/front site pins. NOTE Make sure the pins are the same size on each end. I know Colts are tapered pins and will only go one way. Have it on a solid surface to do this. I have a piece of oak with a hole in it that I place on the floor of the shop. Clamp the barrel in a vise and use the wrench to turn the nut off. Take the nut off of the new grip and install it. Tighten it down and make sure that one of the holes for the gas tube line up with the hole in the upper receiver. Screw on the rest of the tube and tighten it down. I use on e of the rubber strap wrenches the Sears sells. Replace the gas block/front sight pins. ROCK and ROLL |
