My Stihl chainsaw runs fine until I turn it on it's side, then after a minute or so it loses power and stalls. Any idea why it's doing that? |

That's your problem. Does it smoke? Quoted:

Quoted: I'm assuming its full of gas thats properly mixed, if its been sitting awhile make sure the carb isn't gummed up. Usually its one or both of those two things. Quoted: I'm assuming its full of gas thats properly mixed, if its been sitting awhile make sure the carb isn't gummed up. Usually its one or both of those two things. Fresh gas, properly mixed and hasn't been sitting. Quoted: The fuel line in the tank has a weighted filter attached that rolls to the bottom when you tilt it.. Likely the line has got brittle and the filter fell off. Quoted: Check the pick up tube that has the filter on the end of it in the fuel tank. It can roll around and might be trapped on the side that becomes the "top" when your cutting on the side. I'll check those out. Thanks! |
| Well then you should check out gas lines like others have stated and make sure that weighted filter hasn't fell off the line inside the tank or its not hung up above the gas. Will it run on choke while its tipped over? or will it idle until you give it gas then it dies? |

I don't know about running on choke. Don't know about the idle either because I'm usually gassing it as soon as I turn it over. I'll test that tomorrow. |

Quoted: Check / replace fuel line and fuel filter. Check / replace impulse line returning from the carb to the tank. It could be clogged as well. If the impulse line is clogged, how could it run normally sitting level? It only dies when it's turned on it's side. |

I'm Gonna guess its a carb/gas line issue either flooding it or not getting any. I have seen both but usually its the carb getting gummed up or full of shit. I tend to agree with the above. Both are pretty cheap to fix. Some will have custom bent gas lines which are not that expensive to replace. The carb rebuild kits should be under 15 or 20 bucks depending on where you get them. I've rebuilt the carbs on like 2 of my saws, weed wacker, and blower and I think all of them were under 10 bucks but I was using a dealer discount. |

Impulse lines can cause running issues. |
