I just purchased a CVA Optima muzzleloader and I'm trying to find a ballistic chart to help me understand the ballistics. I sighted the muzzleloader in at 25 initially and was centered and 3" high. When I moved back to 50 I was now centered and 6 inches high.
I'm using a 295 grain powerbelt with 80 grains of powder. Can anyone help out or help me understand how I'm seeing an increase of elevation of 3" with only a 25 yard difference. |

It's because the elevation is set too high. The slug is still climbing past 25 yards. You'd probably have to shoot it 200 yards before it begins dropping with that kind of elevation dialed in.
I would zero it at 50 yards and hold about 4 inches high at 100 yards. 295 gr. Powerbelt Aero-tips are my favorite load. I use two 50 gr. Pyrodex pellets and it's the most accurate load I've found in my CVA. |
