Tired of paying the shitty cable Co. big bucks. So I'm thinking of using Netflix for movies. Is it any damn good?

It's better for shows/series than it is for movies. Some fabulous movies but also some glaring omissions, as well. Worth the money, IMO, but questionable if the only intent is to watch movies. Agreed - shows are great and movies selection is lacking. watching star trek original series now. on season two. |

|
| As others have said it's good for TV shows but the movie selection typically sucks. Mostly B rate or straight to DVD shit. If you want movies spend another seven and get DVDs mailed to you. I pay $14 per month to Netflix and have a powered HD antenna in the attic for local HD programming. Works fine for me. |

Hmmmm, I was thinking of cutting the HOB"s, Showtimes etc off my bill and using Flix. How is the selection of movies? EBR666 |

Be prepared for that. Netflix streaming movies isn't all that great. Mail Netflix is good. Both is like $16, alot less than cable |

Some Showtime series are. All of AMC and FX are. |

I had streaming and mailed DVDS. There was quite a disparity over what you could stream vs what you could get on disc. I dropped streaming and went with the 2 DVD plan after they doubled their rates.
I also have Amazon Prime, but have only used it for one movie in 2 years. Direct TV for the rest, with two food channels and the military channel. |

Quoted: They are good for DVDs. They suck ass for streaming. They will have almost nothing you're looking for, unless you are fond of foreign language independent films about lesbian chess playing kleptomaniacs, or documentaries on the blue-footed booby of the Azores. |
|
I only have a small cable package because it was actually cheaper to have that with my internet. I have only watched The Walking Dead and football on cable everything else has been movies or streamed content from Netflix.
It's nice to be able to find a show like Bones or Fringe that build on the previous episode and watch them all. |
| It's $8 a month to basically use a huge library. As long as your internet connection stays up there a ton of independent or obscure gems you haven't seen or seen in a while. You might have to go someplace else for some of the more mainstream films. Netflix it totally worth it to me just for a backup when nothing else is on. |

Good selection. Streaming quality SUCKS. I can watch HULU Plus @ 12 Mb/s all day long over my Wi-Fi network. I'm lucky to sustain 2 Mb/s on Netflix. Usually it will start out a 7-8, then the picture will get progressively worse until I stop playback, at which point the connection is usually running at 0.5 Mb/s. If I go back to HULU Plus, it'll be rocking along at 12 Mb, as usual. I'm really pissed off, and tech support is no help. |

Get a Roku to play Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, or other paid streaming services. The interface is very good.
Then go here, http://mkvxstream.blogspot.com/2013/03/roku-private-channels-2013-roku-channel.html I also use the Plex app on the Roku to stream downloaded content to my HDTV from the PC. |

My problem is the exact opposite, Netflix has always been fine but Hulu craps out relatively frequently. |

I had Hulu Plus for awhile but dropped it because of the (what i though was) poor selection of movies and shows.

If you have streaming only, look into the Hola Unblocker. Different regions have different catalogs and you can often get newer movies by tricking Netflix into thinking you are in Canada or GB.
https://hola.org/ For example, in the US, Breaking Bad stopped mid-way through Season 5. In the UK, AMC was uploading each new episode after it aired. So you could switch to the GB server and watch new episodes as they came out. |

I watch a few episodes, then put the subscription on hold for a month or so then watch more new episodes. Can draw out a month's fee for quite awhile doing that. Only other reason to use Hulu is for their Criterion collection. |

I was paying about 35 bucks for 15 or so TV channels, only 2 to actually watch shows on, so it worked out great for me. My internet connection sucks though and I can make it about 3/4 way through a movie before it starts skipping |
