Wow, what a great show. Finished all 10 episodes in one sitting. How could I not have known about this? And I have had HBO since the mid 90's.

Are there any other shows out there that I should watch that I am unaware of?

When I was a kid I got to hear a paratrooper of 101st and a survivor of Auschwitz Birkeneu speak, I only wish I was old enough to appreciate the things they told us, however at 7 years old it was quite hard to comprehend what they went through.

THere are a few other HBO shows that are along the same lines. I personally think that Band of Brothers is the best but try these out;

Generation Kill- Based on Marines during the invasion of the Iraq war. Gives true accounts just like Band of Brothers.
The Pacific- Follows the Pacific part of world war 2 like the battle of Iwo Jima.
When trumpits fade is another excellent movie b HBO. Its about the Siegfried line "must watch".

I was in the Marines and served 2 tour in Iraq, if you wanna see some movies that are IMO, pretty close to what I experienced, watch Battle for Haditha and the Hurt locker. These movies are very accurate. I was on an EOD escort team during my first tour and the Hurt locker hits real close to home for me.

Great show.

There is a similar series about characters in the pacific theatre, but I personally didn't think it was as good as BOB.

Actually it only covers part of the landings at Iwo Jima, but it does cover a few other battles.

A rock of selfishness and stupidity. I thought I knew quite a bit about what happened and I was terribly mistaken. Now trying to catch up.

Band of Brothers is one of the HBO's finest achievements.

Ever since they aired BoB I've wished they would a similar adaptation of Stephen Ambrose's "Undaunted Courage".  Anyone who hasn't read that one really should.  It's the story of the Lewis & Clark Expedition with an emphasis on Meriwether Lewis.

Also would love to see a BoB style series set in Korea.

Personally, my favorite HBO mini-series was/is John Adams.

But then again, I try to bury my head in the 18th century so as not to get to depressed about the 21st!
If you like revolutionary history, the show was spot on.

I think The Pacific was well done also, it just had a different focus.
But when you compare it to perfection, of course it will come up lacking.

I bought the BoB DVD set the day it came out, full retail price.
And I'm a cheap bastard. Didn't mind one bit shelling out the $$.
I have since the upgraded to BluRay.

I was going to say the same thing. The hurt locker is a complete joke. I haven't met one guy throughout my time in the military that thought the hurt locker was accurate.

I remember the armchair pundits here bashing Hurt Locker mercilessly as "unrealistic..." etc. I really liked it. But then I was a Marine so I must be stupid, right?

Spike usually plays BoB on memorial Day as well. I bought it on DVD and than when it came out on BluRay... Generation Kill was awesome as well. Captain AMERICA!!!! haha

I wish they would do more series on Iraw and Afghanistan so people really understand how dangerous it is over there.

I did not serve, but have had friends that have and seen other documentarys on it, so I am going by what I have been told.

Generation Kill
The Pacific
John Adams

I hear that HBO is working on a 3rd WWII installment that will be about the 8th Air Force over Germany, if its done like BoB was it will be epic.

Dale Dye plays a Colonel in BOB. He was a Marine in VN at Hue City, and he's often a tech advisor for war movies. He ran a "boot camp" for the actors in BOB, and kept it as real as possible. Great man!
