I got an Ta31f acog. Just received my screw and washer set in the mail for fixed carry handle application. The screw and washer set comes with a lock washer. My problem is, the screw is too short to use the lock washer. The scope mounts just fine when I use the screw and washer and forgo the lock washer. Anyone know why this is? I'm attaching it to a bushmaster a2 upper. I'm worried that withouth the lock washer, the screw will come loose.

Help appreciated!

ETA Eric from trijicon still hasn't responded to my email so I called customer service.  The lady who answered was no help and couldn't answer my questions and told me to wait for a response.  In the mean time I tried unscrewing the screw and washer while holding the scope into place, I put the lock washer on the screw, then the carry handle washer, then attempted to re screw the assembly...didn't work. I'm about 4 threads too short

Why don't you call Trijicon for us and then report back?

Ok, I wil have to wait until after classes before I can call.

Why don't you show the set up to the teacher and the rest of your classmates in an effort to gain assistance...
Make it a class project. Post back the results. Bonus for filming the outcome...

OP - if it's anything like my previous experience with carry handle mounted optics - it's going to be a very tight fit.

The TA31 is the carry handle version, TA31F is the flat top mount.  Verify which version you have before going any further.
Below is a pic of the correct screw/washer arrangement, and do not install without the  split washer, as it will come off PDQ.

If you HAVE to use locktite, go no stronger than purple.  This is an optic which you cannot reliably heat to remove screws later.  I wouldn't though, just a little anti-seize on the threads.

This.

BTW.....I'd be worried that your optic would be too high above the bore to be very useful unless you intend to shoot from a fixed range regularly.

I tried my damnedest, pushi as hard as I could. I was gonna just say fuck it and throw on some locktite but didn't wanna jump the gun just yet.

What sucks is I've waited close to 6 months for the screw and washer set since it was a special order through brownells.

Next question, you're SURE this is the carry handle mount version?

Have you tried mounting it w/o the lockwasher to seat the acog in the handle, remove the screw, then putting the lock on and retightening?

All acogs have carry handle mounting capability, when I bought the acog it came with the mount designated for flattop use.  I removed that mount, and ordered the screw and washer set.

Does the Acog not ship with a -10? Or is that just the .mil ones? You should be able to download the manual for them.

I've followed all instruction in the manual. Hmm, maybe I need to put the purse down and man handle the bitch on? I'm just scared of mucking up the threads on my 1200 dollar piece of glass

So, you can afford a $1k optic but you can't swing a $89 flattop upper?

That's not the point, I like the look and utility of the carry handle, I don't mind the height of the scope either.  Some time in the future I might "upgrade"

What is this utility of the carry handle you speak of ? You're not going to be Able to carry it with the "carry handle" with an acog on top.

I put mine on a carry handle using that mount and it didn't require any "muscle"; Id be wary of this approach.

Going to a flat top isn't a upgrade, its just an option. I have several diff optics mounted on A2 Uppers, use the drop in rail comes with a nut with a rubber gasket, works like a lock & doesn't scratch the upper then mount the Trij to the rail, this type of app works best with a collapsible stock.

Yeah I used that method with a tapco drop in rail, too much going on for me. I like how clean the acog looks mounted straight into the handle.
