The 1911 is worse than the Garand.... The melt-job looks horrific. And I'm not sure what these are supposed to be? Slide Serrations? Scallops? Or just a lot of misses with a hammer while trying to install a rear sight?

Let me begin by saying that is ugly as fuck.
But. There was a time not so distantly removed from WWII and it's associated horrors that people didn't want "war" on their guns. They didn't want to be reminded of what those guns represented and certainly didn't hold them irreverently as historical artifacts. They may have wanted to capitalize on the benefits of the tool but they also wanted a disconnect from its history. There was a hell of a bunch of this type of "sporterization" that took place in the 50's, 60's and well into the 70's. That 1911 however is far more recent it would appear and is plentifully fucked up. I think he was looking to make the serrations look like slate (which they kinda sorta do). |
