So it's been a couple of years and it's time for a new car battery. I know this because randomly I will go to start my car and all power will die as soon as I turn the ignition. No click click, no dimming of lights, just dead. So I've found that when this happens, if I pop the hood and disconnect then reconnect the battery cables, when I go to start the car again it will fire right up. Next couple times I go to start the engine it will be fine, and then one time it will be falt dead until reconnecting the cables again.

Why is this? I could understand the battery not keeping a charge, or a weak start, but how does it go from being flat dead to fully charged just by removing cables. There's no moving parts in the battery, so how the hell can reconnecting it change anything.

What gives?

Sounds to me like the cables are dirty and not making good contact.  Clean them and see if it doesn't start behaving.

Check at the battery, on the starter, and your grounds

As the others have said check you cables and make sure they are clean and tight. If you had a dead battery taking the cable off and putting them back on would not do any good since the battery is dead.

Mine would do the same thing.

Others have said, but I will restate,
Check clamps are good and clean as well as tight,
check terminals are clean
check cables for defects,
replace any bad parts, parts are cheap, reliability is priceless

Cables are clean and connection are good. This happens every time the battery dies in this car. Same thing recently with the wife's minivan. Flate dead until you fiddle with the cables, then it's good for a few trips. Once the battery is replaced, everything is good to go.
