If it is out there that you somehow have a gene for some expensive disease you could open yourself to not being able to get insurance. |

I used 23andme. NSA has my DNA now? It's not like they couldn't get my DNA pretty easily anyway. Well you do tend to spray it about in many a hotel and highway rest stop. ![]() ![]() I know you just called me a fag but that still had me laughing out loud, literally.

Is it worth the price? Can you actually find out anything worthwhile from it, or are they just making you spit in a cup and then reading tea leaves? lol, I'm envisioning a bony witch finger with a long crooked nail stirring the spit in a cup. I'd be curious to see if they had info to give you or are merely just using all the rubes looking for free service to build their research data stockpile. Trust no one Mulder.

Is it worth the price? Can you actually find out anything worthwhile from it, or are they just making you spit in a cup and then reading tea leaves? You can find out where your paternal and maternal DNA came from. Mine came from a specific part of Ireland. You can find out if you're a carrier to dozens of weird ass genetic diseases you've never heard of. You can find, if you wish, relatives you never knew you had. They can reliably tell what your eye color and hair color is by your DNA. They even can tell you what kind of ear wax you have. I'm not making this up. There's a ton more. Go to the website and I believe there's a "what kind of information will you provide to me" link that will take you to a demonstration profile. You'll get to see a sample of what you'd actually see. It's a lot cooler than I'm able to explain. Is it worth it? Well, it's $99. I wouldn't recommend every drop a benjamin on it, but if finding out things about your unique DNA is interesting to you, then it may be worth the $99. I'm glad I did mine. It's been 2 years and they still update my profile and give me new information often. Also, I not infrequently get notifications from 23andme that new potential relatives have been located. It's usually an estimated 3rd to 5th cousin that I can't defintively place, but that's usually my fault because I don't know much about my family history. |
