[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Wow. (Page 1 of 4)

| I just want to say I lost a lot of respect for many Arfcommers today. I found an old archive on here when I Googled a relative of mine. He was the victim in a much publicized military trial about 7 or 8 years ago. It amazes me some of the stuff I was reading about it when no one on here knew the real story and definitely didn't know him the way I did. Say what you all want, I'm just highly disappointed in many of you right now. |

Right, so it's completely reasonable to expect facts and personal details from the strangers here reading news media headlines. I'm disappointed in you too, can you guess why? And what the fuck are you even talking about? ![]() |

Quoted: http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=452898 I don't want to get into the specifics, but certain comments like he needed to get shot are just unbelievable. Well then, I guess we'll just remember the story our way then. Feel free to go complain elsewhere. |

Quoted: I understand that people wouldn't know everything, the thing that gets me is people saying he deserved it and stuff like that. First of all he was out defending our country and second of all, people rarely deserve to die. ETA = Forget it, read 1st post again.

Or are you just guessing too? I don't even know who you're trying to defend, and frankly, I don't give a shit either. This is obviously way old news and you making this thread isn't going to change a damn thing. I don't even know what the hell you're doing, do you? |

Hey its cool, I could see you being upset if that's the case. SHould give more details why your mad though, maybe media left out all the details on the incident and that's why some people said things you didn't like. Quoted:

My goal wasn't to get in an argument about what's wrong or right. I know both sides of the situation made mistakes, obviously I feel like it could have gone another way. I was just stating how disappointed I am with some of the ignorant comments and assumptions I saw. |

First of all he was out defending our country and second of all, people rarely deserve to die. I don't know any more details of this story than I got during 5 minutes on Google. But you realize that you're on a firearms forum, right? Basically, the entire existence of this forum is predicated upon the tacit acceptance of the fact that, oftentimes, people do deserve to die. We don't own firearms because we like to hang our coats on them. We own firearms because we understand that someday our path might cross the path of somebody who deserves to die. Sure, part of the firearms community is about sporting and hobby, but the bottom line is that firearms are weapons, designed to kill. Furthermore, it looks like Gasper was acquitted by a jury of his peers, which sounds an awful lot like the jury accepted his claim of self-defense. Is the entire story tragic? Absolutely. And I respect both men for putting on the uniform. But sometimes, when you have two people whose full-time job is the administration of extreme violence, and you add in a lot of alcohol, bad things happen. |

I know that what happened was almost the only way that it could, but there's the part of that wonders how a Seal from Dev Gru couldn't have thought of a different way out. That will always be there. He didn't have it on him, he went to his bedroom to get it. He could have called the cops or something else. Like I said, I didn't start this up to argue what was right or wrong. But, he either lost the civil case or they settled out of court. |

So a wasted SEAL attacked another SEAL in his own home, choked him until he shit himself, then got shot in self defense in the gut and died. What exactly is the problem here? ![]() Nice try to oversimplify.
"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!" I mean seriously, besides some navy gay jokes what in the actual fuck is the problem here? |

"he needed to be shot" "and now he has to put up with the BS lawsuit from the drunk's parents." Those are direct quotes. Put it like this, if it was your relative wouldn't you think differently? Wouldn't you care a little bit? |
