| Looking to add a little pride to my front yard with a nice 15-20' flag pole.None of the box stores in town have anything that goes in the ground. Saw some of these telescoping Pole Kits on ebay but it almost seems too cheap. Anybody got anything thats not gonna wreck the bank account? |

I went the steel pipe method.
12' of 2 1/2" 12' of 2" I bought some other steel with it, but I want to say it was $90ish. I bought a 4" anodized gold ball for $25 I used 2 or 3 cans of CASE IH silver paint 40' of rope, a pulley, and 2 snaps were around $20 4x6' Annin flag from Costco was $25 Plus concrete. I'm in it $200ish and my time, but it's also going to stand the test of time. The one you linked may survive the first windstorm, but I wouldn't count on it being around after a few of them. |

Where did you buy the hardware when you made your own as far as the halyard etc...? The fixture at the top of the pole that holds the pulley and the finial is called a truck. Proper rope for the halyard isn't cheap 3/8" reinforced braided rope is around $1.25 per foot. You can find all this stuff at a flag supply store. Brass clips for the flag can be found at a decent hardware store. I priced everything out and decided to go with a 20' steel kit instead. It has an 18" sleeve that gets buried in concrete. When I got it home, I decided that I didn't like the nylon pulley, so I replaced that, then I decided that the plastic flag clips needed to be changed to brass ones, so they went, then of course I decided I didn't want to hear them clanging against the pole, so I bought come covers for the clips. Of course then I decided that my halyard was too small and replaced it with 3/8" rope. When I set the pole I decided that I may want to remove the pole for the winter. I installed an underground valve box around the sleeve so I could remove it and not leave the sleeve unprotected from being filled. All of a sudden my $99 flagpole was approaching close to $200! |
