| One of my dogs got sprayed. Doing the tomato juice thing also trying the backing soda and vinegar concoction. The spray was localized to the snout/mouth area. Any help would be appreciated probably give 20 baths and can't get that last bit of smell out. |

http://dogs.about.com/od/caringfordogsandpuppies/ht/deskunking.htm This is pretty much letter for letter what I use. Just Peroxide, baking soda, and Dawn dish soap. Tomato juice doesn't work. We had two overly inquisitive labs that managed to get sprayed at least once a month. ![]() |

A good degreaser like plain old dish soap will get most of it, then the Peroxide mix gets whatever is left over..from there we have used skunk off a time or two.
The skunk off stuff, is not much better than the peroxide, baking soda, dish soap combo though. Best thing we have found is grabbing a bottle of buddy wash, a ball and spending an hour playing fetch in the pond. Couple of scrubs between retrieves and LOTS of swimming around in tannin rich water, knocks down that last bit of lingering stench. Good luck man. It's no fun. |

The skunk off didn't help much if any. May have even hindered. And the peroxide foamed up anywhere the dog had rubbed on on the tile floor and helped remove the smell. |

Their dog was always curious/ defensive of the skunks crossing between the fields on either side of our street. She killed one, and pulled the tail off another . My dog was smart enough after one spray to stay away. |

Quoted: Go buy the dog shampoo made specifically for that. Tomato juice is BS. Also. Don't go to PETCO. They dont know what they are doing. Buy Skunk Off or Skunk Kleen shampoo. You should always have it around. follow the instructions. It is a quick remover before taking the dog to a professional. But that wont get rid of it in the ears or the mouth. After the PETCO waste of money I took my dog to Pampered Paws in Goffstown. They cleaned her up including her breath. I dont know what they used. Both tomes that my dog was sprayed it was point blank range in the face. I was a couple feet behind her pulling her away. I was also sprayed at point blank range. It does not smell like a skunk until hours later. It actually smells worst. BTW. Skunk urine carries bacteria and viruses that are dangerous to both the dog and you. Skunks may also be infected with the bacterial disease tularemia . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tularemia |

Dog stays outside in the kennel until the odor is gone. Seeing is how I am at a field trial in a hotel, not really an option. Well that sucks. Lots of Hot water DOES work, eventually. I just don't know how you'd get the dog to put up with it. My Dad got sprayed while I was growing up, and he spent the night sleeping in the Apartment complex Hot Tub. Mom opened the door... and slammed it in his face. This was pre-cell phones, so the whole complex knew to avoid the Rec Center that night.
