I called back and it said thanks for calling the "United States Dental Benefits Department"

Does obamacare require dental and vision as well as general health insurance?

How was it local?  You don't live in the US.

If you don't then you're a big, fat phony.

Yep.  I have a buddy who delights in using an app on his phone to call folks from what they think is another number.  Before he retired he got me pretty good with a series of nonsense calls that showed as coming from my commander's (a white shirt) cell phone, right before my commander actually called me.  I, of course, thought it was the guy messing with me, so my telephone greeting was something like "stop bothering me, asshole!"

It's very easy to spoof numbers these days, especially when calling a cell phone.  They always show up as local area codes.

Also be careful, tons of Indian phone bank scams claiming claiming to be calling from the "US Department of ______" lately and "calling about Aboomacare."

Bingo.

And I had to explain this to one of our Marketing execs this morning, who was trying to derive where calls were coming from, based on a report I gave him that included the callerID of every caller to a particular number.
