That is an incredible amount of tooling and automation that's been gathered in a short time.

The guy I bought my truck from designs the motor housings there. He did some pretty neat stuff to the truck before he sold it, SEMA show etc.

I wonder if they offer tours.  NUMMI who was previously in that building had a really nice tour.

followed one home yesterday, very cool car.

Edit: It was a Karma Fisker I was just told. Look similar and both are electric.

Karma has a gas engine to charge the batteries like in the Volt. Our IT Director in the Netherlands has one, car is huge. I think they are out of business more or less.

THIS is how you do affordable high-end manufacturing in the US.  High automation, MASSIVE vertical integration (did we forget all about that shit after Carnegie died, or what?), and extremely agile management practice.  No tyranny of the MBA/accountant at the top means no ultra-short-term focus on share price, and they focus on making a competitive quality product.

I absolutely agree 187%.  I just wish this methodology was being applied to a product that was actually relevant to the free market.

I just don't think basing their operation in CA was a good idea in the long run if they want to lower prices in the future where more than just the 1%ers can afford them .  All the other manufacturers are building factories where the business climate is more competitive.

Don't forget to charge $70,000 for a widget any self-loathing douche could masturbate too.

Anyone paying that much for an electric/hybrid car is not doing it for the fuel economy.

LoL, a comparative car like a Porsche Panamera Hybrid cost more.

This is not meant to replace a civic.

It's meant to replace the Accord. But for $40,000 more.

Wow, color me impressed.

That's like a real car factory.

I remember watching the Tesla Roadster being built and it was definitely not like that.

Cool.

As someone who spends a lot of time in car assembly plants that looks just like BMW in SC, Mercedes in AL, Honda in AL, Hyundai in AL, and Kia in GA. They actually may have less automation than BMW, Kia, and Hyundai. I wish I could find more pictures on the net. If you are caught taking pictures in these places they will kick you out and take your badge so you can't get back in.
All these plants even have the cool little robot carts that ferry parts from the incoming docks to where they are needed in the assembly building.
