Four young children, ages 3 months, 2, 5, and 6 were taken from their parents in their Denver apartment after a police check on their living conditions revealed unsanitary and abusive conditions.  The police observed the apartment to have an “unbearable odor” similar to that of a dead animal, as well as insect infestation, flies everywhere and decayed and rotting food.

There was also a strong odor of urine. None of the children were toilet trained and they were found to be incapable of speech, communicating through hand gestures and grunting.
