Just got home from the vet. Had to put Arthur down, had a stroke or some such this morning. 15 year old Bassett. My wife has gone to pieces. That dog was a pain in my ass - manic as hell when it was raining, or threatening to rain, or rain in the forecast - even rain in the forecast 3 weeks from now. Occasionally shit the floor just for fun. Cost me a ton in vet bills over the years. Pretty much pissed me off on a daily basis and Dammit I miss her and she hasn't been gone an hour. RIP Arthur... |

Very sorry to hear man. Dogs can be difficult family members to live with, but they sure do get into our hearts. And just curious, but you say "she". Your female dog was named Arthur? Gotcha. Sorry for your loss. |

Lost a fur bastard a week ago also. I think there is a time frame of when they get so ingrained in your life the loss of the pal just is stunning.
I drank, have drank and hell am drinking atm just to numb the raw edge off. A stiff drink and a nap will do you wonders on your perspective. |

The Wife and I had a Yellow Lab named Savannah.
That Dag pissed me off on a daily basis. She was hit by a train not far from the house a few years ago. God... I truly miss her...And the pain in the ass she was. It's tough loosing a family member. Stay strong OP. |

Sorry to see Arthur go. You wrote that the Mrs. named her. Is there the story behind it? Would you care to share the story of why Arthur?
My dad had a Basset named Duke. Duke was overweight. I remember dad's wife giving him sliced potato wedges and carrots for "treats" so he could lose weight. Meanwhile dad was giving him gum drops because they both loved them. |

Dude, I know you're depressed, but you're only hurting yourself.
Losing a pet is never easy. I lost mine in 2004. I haven't had another dog of my own since. It's strange how closely we bond with our dogs. eta: I've heard that adopting another dog that needs a good home is a good way to help the healing process. |
