| Why do they go there and get locked? There was some good ones. And others that I google and find out their archived. |

I think GB said it was for server load, database size, site speed. That's how I understand it. This. Why index thousands if not millions of threads on your prime front-facing server(s) when they can be sloughed off onto backend machines that have no real major instant performance expectations? If GD or any of the technical forums got incredibly slow to respond, for instance, it'd be really really annoying...but if it takes 3 minutes to conduct an archive search about pineapple upside-down cake from 2005, who cares? Most active threads don't go three months without an update of some kind, and the ones that do are pretty safe to archive... |

I think all of the older members recall how bad the site was for a while back in the early oughts before GB did a major upgrade of the site The whole site was so slow to load that I started spending a lot more time on Glocktalk and other gun forums for a while I do wish that you could edit your old posts that have been archived, or even post in an archived thread and bring it back to life. That's possible on other internet forums but considered a social gaff and is frowned upon. Not sure why; I'd rather have fewer threads on some topics that are constantly revived than many repetitive threads that sink to the archives forever |

Why can some members activate an archived thread and others can't? I don't think that's possible. Staff and forum mods can set an active thread to not archive, but I think only GB can bring a thread from the archives to the active forums and he usually won't do it. |

There were days you could click on a post, go make get a drink, grab some food, and the page would still be loading when you got back. ![]() |
