I have a logitech revue with google tv and I like it a lot. The reason I like it is that I can connect a usb hard drive and play HD movies in digital form if I want. Lots of the newer boxes dont do that. I also have an IO gear in the other room that works well. I can surf on either and I can add apps to either. Good luck with your search

Apple TV is ok if you already have Apple stuff.  I have a Roku, but it may as well just be a Netflix/Amazon streaming box.  I don't use much else on it.  If you don't already have a video game console, get a Wii.  It'll probably do everything you want, and you can get Super Mario Bros. on it.

i have a xbox 360 and its awful to deal with netflix etc on it.
I have a gold membership but get "upgrade to gold" error all the time, just tired of dealing with it. It's not for me anyhow.

I have 3 Rokus (2x Roku 3s and a HD) that replaced dedicated HTPCs.  Couldn't be happier with them.  Hulu and Netflix both have good interfaces.  I use Plex for all my local media, YouTube, and TED talks.  Fantastic little boxes.

If they had a HDHomeRun Prime channel I would throw money at their headquarter's front doors.
