We're having a group of friends get together for some shooting fun in a month or so.  Other than the usual gong on a chain, balloons, eggs, etc what are some fun things you guys have done to shoot at?  We've already got some tannerite, golf balls on tees, clay pigeons, etc.  Just looking for some new ideas.

These never did much for me. I guess I was expecting larger "explosions" — for lack of a better word.

If you have teenagers, shoot up some old hard drives or electronics (phones). They seem to get a kick out of that.

I froze a bunch of water with food coloring in those clear plastic disposable cups (Take them out of the cups before shooting them). They were pretty fun to shoot and no mess to clean up.

Some guy on here made clay pigeon holders from 4" pvc pipe. Thought it was cool.

I saved up some old cheap frying pans tied them to tree limbs along with an old toaster we tied up by the cord. Bought a bunch of bowling pins from the local alley for a buck a piece. All that tied on tree limbs made for a fun 4th of july just remember to clean up. The old toaster was a kid favorite

Refill empty aluminum cans with water. They are usually brightly colored, they don't blow around in the wind, and they explode when hit.

That's a good idea.  Yard sales are full of crappy old frying pans.

Get some construction paper.  Cover it in yellow packing tape. Paint it with cheap flat black paint.
You now have a home made splatter target that works fucking awesome.

Tannerite IN the goofballs plus slingshot. Ad 12 gauge and a good strong "PULL" voice and you have the makings of a good time

Great stuff expanding foam is neat, but it is a hell of a mess.  Shaving cream works about the same but less mess.

A huge box of clay pigeons are cheap and great reactive targets.
Also I have a couple of these and they are great, I recommend them-

Exhaust manifolds and or mufflers if you have any laying around.  Also depending on the power of your guns you can shoot cinderblocks or bricks.  Nothing wowed the family quite like seeing xm855 break red bricks to pieces and 7.62x51 turn a small wall of cinderblocks into rubble in short order.

I set a day like this up for the first part of a bachelor party not too long ago.  We had a mix of pretty serious shooters all the way down to a few guys who had never shot before at all.

From what I saw, the key is to have some competition and head to head type stuff that everyone can observe and participate in, as well as some blasting sessions where everyone can just lineup and shoot away freely.

Paintballs taped to your backers react really well to .22lr.  Most casual shooters will find it pretty satisfying to hit a paintball with open sights from 30 yards or so.

Head to head contests using simple cups (or whatever) filled with water were a lot of fun.  Different patterns, different distances, etc.  All you need is a big quantity of cups and a 5 gallon bucket of water to setup a lot of runs.  It was interesting to see in those types of head to head contests some of our best target shooters didn't really dominate with pressure, time, and reloads added into the mix.  These need to be fast and simple to setup each run, thus the cups of water.  We tried poker shooting cards but that was way too slow for a crowd.

Small gourds are also great.

I setup a line of tables as a clear firing line, and gave a 2 minute serious talk at the beginning about only pointing downrange, nobody in front of the tables.  Even dealing with ~30 guys and several inexperienced shooters there were no safety/sweep issues.  Just some brass landing on skin here and there.

Cheapest and easiest  are using all those plastic water bottles the designer water junkies waste.

Refill them, shoot them.

Winning!!

I made these a while back, been using them for a 2 or 3 years now with no problems.
