I haven't used my desktop in a while and set it up in a new man cave. It will not allow me to navigate from or to a page without opening a new browser. Even then I sometimes have to hit refresh to get to the url. Once it decides to navigate to the page it's fast.

Any ideas? I ran AVG basic and no improvement. Any recommendations for Free or cheap program to fix this?

Sounds like you have the options set to open a new browser window rather than new tabs.

IE9-> Internet Options -> General -> Tabs -> Settings -> Open links in  . . .

Here are a couple of good free tools to keep available:

1. Always keep a copy of Combofix.exe file on the desktop. You can run it in safe mode with networking when shit happens. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/

2. Run Adware cleaner once in a while. It's also just an exe file. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

3. Malwarebytes to check up on your cleaning. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-rootkit/

Most of the time, Combofix will do the trick. It updates itself and cleans out all malware, adware and viruses. I've used it as the first fix for many years on many computers. Only one time did I have to run a rootkit fix after the fact.

Do not let the magic blue smoke out, no matter how pretty the magic smoke looks letting it out is a bad thing.

If your running internet explorer you might go ahead and try chrome or fire fox.
