Anyone use this?  The credit terminal in my office just crapped the bed and these systems look interesting.  I use the terminal relatively infrequently and the main thing would be figuring out how to print receipts for people that need them.

What's the good/bad/ugly for these things?  Pitfalls?

Will your customers feel comfortable with that?

I hear they work fine

Square is open/ no encryption and charges 2.75% across the board, zero customer service and sometimes up to a month hold time on funds.
Heartland is the answer you seek, the best company in the industry.

There's a big thread on it. Square doesn't support guns and gun items supposedly and that's what I've been using for 8 months or so.

PAI is expensive to start. I'm looking into Intuit. I use an iPhone and do gun shows and phone orders for gun accessories only.

I bought an ACOG from an Afrcommer with a CC and he was using Square. It worked fine. It generated a receipt and he emailed it to me.

Of those, I only know (and use) square.  You should take a close look at the fine print, square is good, but every other one I have looked at has had intolerable issues in the fine print, mostly relating to disputes, like charging you a non refundable fee to actually investigate, if you don't pay they automatically side with whoever filed the dispute, legit, or not, and if it's a low sale, the "investigation fee" can eat all the profit, or even cost more than the sale.  Unfortunately Square is known to be anti gun, but I haven't found a competing service without fees, or bad policy.

I can tell you though that sqaure works, it's easy to use, and they are prompt with the deposit, and the per charge fee while higher than some isn't to bad, and it's the only one you pay, the device is free, the program is free, and their are no service fees, all you pay is the per transaction fee.  However, do not let them know you are doing anything related to guns.

Read the fine print on those, particularly related to disputes (legit, or not).

That's an issue, which is why I'd like to be able to print receipts - how to do that is a big question because people write off their medical and dental expenses and hence want hard copies.  Getting the absolute best rate is not as important as being hassle free.

Square works.  They will e-mail a receipt.  If that does not work, carry a receipt book.  You'll still have the digital receipt.

Square will also e-mail receipts for cash/check at no charge.

I use Square as well. I tossed in a bit of extra security...at least in my mind.
I opened a savings account just for square deposits. Once they clear square, I move them from savings to checking. That way my primary checking account is a bit more insulated from chargebacks, hacking, etc.

According to my mom who is banking, services such as square cant encrypt cell based transaction. So the threat of having your info stolen is much higher.

Plus square hates guns and America... Fuck them

I work in the credit card payment processing industry. As a manager of a security team... Seriously, avoid square.

There are lots out there, but square is one bad day away from exploited. The last thing you need is one your customers credit cards in the wild...

I don't know that i'd agree heartland is the "best" but they are better than square, although there systems go down more often then i'd like.

Wait, you are a dentist?
why are you touching a credit card machine?  Let your staff handle it
Get a standard processing machine. You can get IP based ones so you can drop your fax line and get efax or similar if you still wanna get faxes

You can get a Bluetooth printer to print, or most just email it.

Staff?  When stuff breaks, they all look at me to fix it.

What is your accounting software?

We use Quickbooks, and it has CC processing built in, plus can use a cell (Go Payment) if we want - but we don't.

Anybody have anything about Intuit? I want to dump Square right quick, but I like the email receipts function. Like I said, PAI is a bit expensive on startup, but I haven't ruled it out.

Get yourself a capable office manager and tell her to handle it. Please don't tell me your wife is your office manager. You need to be producing, not fixing shit

I've used payanywhere for our donations running one of the recalls here in Colorado. It's worked great, done thousands in transactions and not a single problem thus far.

I used one with an "independent" stylist at a hair salon (haircuts for the whole family).  No problems noted.
