is this code-speak for "we're going to really come out in the open about indoctrinating your kids with our progressive agenda."???

cuz that's what i get out of it....especially the part about the AP not wanting to have a discussion....

i'm glad we're able to put ours in a private school this year for pre-k...

Basically, memorization is hard and annoying for teachers to teach since they have to do stuff. So they dropped those parts. Now they teach "concepts" and shit like that.

Based on NY's recent test scores, it's a big pile of shit.

If you want your kid to know things like their multiplication tables or where countries are on a map you'll need them to do that kind of memorization at home.

ETA: Holy shit, anybody out there want to point out all the grammar errors in that thing? That guy apparently inserts commas with an AK set on full auto.

Their numbers are wrong, several states have dropped out of the Common Core teaching format - citing it as the dumbing down of our children. I've asked a few teachers what they think of it and from what I've gathered, the lazy ones love it.

Funny, I thought the same thing. I don't understand how a school can send a letter with such a blatant error and not feel utterly retarded.

Maybe common core didn't teach proper proof reading.

Just retired from 15 years teaching JROTC in a 2K student school. Didn't deal with too much of that stuff because of our own program curriculum. Its sort of simple, to me anyway. There is a baseline. EVERYBODY has to meet it. Out of thirty kids there will be five really intelligent smart ones. Fuck 'em. They will pass the exit exam so don''t waste your time with them. There will be 15 mid range kids.
Keep them moving so they will pass. Watch the slower ones carefully, if they start slipping then do what you have to but if they are passing leave them alone. Now, there are ten bottom feeders left, basically illiterate, no idea of anything, could not care less about shit. This is where 90% of the effort is going. They MUST pass. Cannot fail. Most likely are minorities so that makes it even more important. If they don't meet the basic core standard then the teacher is fucked, the administration is fucked, the school is fucked, the school system is fucked and everybody catches hell cause nobody is doing their job. Doesn't matter that ebonics is all they have ever heard and they never saw anything printed in their life, doesn't matter that they crossed the border three weeks ago and can't speak a work of English, doesn't matter that yo mama was a crack whore/alcoholic and the kid a poster child for fetal alcohol syndrome, doesn't matter that the kid takes twelve adhd meds five times a day. He MUST NOT FAIL. Its designed to bring the bottom kids up. Guess where all the time and resources are going?
