I have an external hard drive, maybe 2 years old. It mounts on my MacBook (2008 model) just fine, but has NEVER been recognized by my Window 7 laptop. I had it before I got the Windows 7 machine.

Any thoughts? It shows up in "devices" on the Windows laptop, but that's it. Frustrating as hell. There is stuff I'd like to access from Windows machine that I can't.

Check the file format of the drive. If it is Mac OS extended format it will not work. You would have to reformat it to fat32, which is compatible with both systems.

Wen you format it will erase everything though. So move files off HDD, format to fat32, then move files back.

Note: with fat32 there is a 4gb limit for a single file. This may be a problem if you've got movies saved on there.

Try this link for a better explanation.

Edit: there are ways to change formats without moving files but I would not recommend it!
