Talking with my Dad today and just talking random scenarios and I brought up this...Let's say tomorrow the Dems come out and say "You know what..Handguns kill more than any other type of firearm...so we make them like MG's are now...no more after this date..all must be registered NFA...could still be transferred but no new ones..and we will repeal the MG ban...still have to do NFA stuff but you can buy them brand new etc...would anyone here take that deal? As tempting as it is since I wasn't even born in 86 I would not take it. (Of course I know this would NEVER happen..just thought it was interesting.)
EDIT: No legislative tricks...no bullshit behind the scenes crap...just straight up...handguns are like mg's are now and mg's are like sbr's etc. |

Handguns were originally targeted in the 1934 NFA. It was decided to many people would be pissed off and handguns were swapped out for silencers. |
| Well besides bitching about all of the possibilities and assuming the legislation is a trick, I'd vote for it. Then I'd just buy a full auto pistol and have the best of both worlds...(in addition to a bunch of other machine guns like belt feds and convert or sell and repurchase just about ever rifle in my collection for a full auto version). |

And this is also not a handgun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXh3nRd1K8U Oh, but the 1934 NFA is still unconstitutional. |

They wanted to essentially ban pistols and any easily concealable sawed-off long-guns. And if your horse trade ever occurred I'd have to get a G18.

If not for Watergate, this likely wouldn't even have been a conversation.Nixon wanted to ban ALL handguns and polls showed amajority of Americans being OK with that. The NRA was a sporting organization and didn't oppose Reagan's gun laws in CA as it didn't affect gentlemanly sporting and competition. They didn't mutter a word about self defense and the ability to resist tyranny in those days.

No. A CPL and a handgun are of considerably more practical value to me, and likely a whole lot of others like me, than a machine gun.
MGs are cool, and I would love to own one, but I cannot justify even the bottom of the barrel entry price of several thousand dollars. |

| No. It's bull shit that machine guns are require stamps and can't be produced, but I can rapid fire my rifles as fast as I could ever need to. Can't conceal an MG like a handgun, so handguns fill a role that MGs can't, but MGs can be replaced by semi rifles without losing too much. |

No its a stupid idea. I don't carry a MG for CCW. It would be a huge step towards confections as it would register guns. Mmm... confections. http://www.gourmetchocolatelove.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Norman-Love-Confections.jpg Beat me to it. Confections are not as scary as confiscations. Well maybe for diabetics? |

Quoted: you would get bored of MG very easily and it will cost a fortune in ammo just to have fun with it.... This X 1000 I feel the ache in my wallet just shooting semi. FA is just a novelty in most applications. Just sit and imagine for a moment how expensive it would be. It is fine when your ammo is being paid for by other people. LE Dept, Gubment, Etc... Most people here on Arfcom could not afford to shoot full auto but a few times a year. Don't get me wrong, I think it all should be legal, and mosdef is included in the 2A! It just isn't financially sound for most of us! application of a squad Beltfed could be useful in certain situations. So a collection of those would be in order!

Here is a trade I can get behind:
To all Members of Congress and the office of the POTUS: Quit attacking the 2nd Amendment and fully restore its original intent and we will not remove you from office. No giving up shit, we want it all restored to pre 1934 condition. A handgun never killed anyone and never will, it is a criminal that did the killing. The device used matters none, car, hammer, machete, hunting knife, meat cleaver, chainsaw, sledge hammer, dynamite, or gun. Dead is dead. |
