| My wife has a bed bath and beyond gift card, and these interest us. |

The novelty wears off quickly. Mine just collects dust now as I was tired of generic tasting soda. My main interest in it is diet cream soda.
I've looked EVERYWHERE in my area and when I see it on amazon, it's damn near as expensive as buying this damn machine. |
|
Pricing the ones I have seen, it just seems to be an expensive way to make store brand quality soda.
Now I don't have an addiction to energy drinks or hard to find obscure flavors, so mileage may vary. Last time I read the fine print/disclaimer, you are leasing the CO2 cannisters, as I understood it. What happens if the company that owns them goes under? Are they a standard size you can get elsewhere? |
|
yes i have one and like it, i make diet soda with it and wife likes plain soda,
the syrups seem a bit pricey they do go a long way i used to stop at convenience stores and get 32 oz diet cokes several times a week and this is cheaper and tastes just about the same |

I got one for my Wifey and she loves it. When we first got it, we picked up some of the Soda Stream labeled mixes. Got to be too expensive, so we started looking into Kool Aid powdered drinks and Generic Mio drink mixes and Gatorade Mixes and she loves these much better.
I do like the Root Beer Mix the best, if you stay with the SS Mixes. |

The biggest issue for me was the CO2 only being provided by them. That is why I've never pulled the trigger on one. Fill them your self or use paint ball tanks. Check here |

Lame , I like mine a lot.

Make sure you can return it then, because the odds of what comes out tasting like good diet cream soda are really slim. Supposedly the diet sodas are the worst ones. |

Keep a glass pitcher of water in the fridge which has been augmented with the juice of 2 squeezed lemons per liter. I add Mio Strawberry Watermelon or Peach Tea to each glass as I pour it. 1/2 glass of the fridge water with lemon, then fill from the tap and add a slight shot of the Mio.
I can't do carbonation so this works well for me. And we have good tap water here. |

They put soda in cans for you. Why would you want to make your own? And I suspect it's average at best.
The comment about the energy drink does have me a bit curious. If it tastes just like red bull, has a similar affect and is a lot cheaper, that could save me a lot of money over the course of a year. Red Bull is like crack to me. |

| Sammich Maker bought one last year and we use in constantly, currently have 4 bottles in the fridge 1 Koolaid, 2 COla and and one raspberry tea. Its cheaper than soda/ premixed shit by a decent amount and most of all my 6yr old has a blast making it when we run down the bottles. |

Al Jazeera says SodaStream is bad.
link intentionally left cold: http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2013/07/2013711145016751282.html Seems like a good reason to get one.
ETA: These clowns don't like it either. http://sodastreamboycott.org/ We are thirsty for justice.
We are Christians, Muslims, Jews, and other people of conscience calling on all consumers and stores to stop buying and selling SodaStream carbonation devices or other products made by this company. SodaStream manufactures these machines within an Israeli settlement in occupied Palestinian territory. These settlements are illegal under international law and are obstacles to peace. We choose not to partake in supporting this unethical enterprise and ask consumers and stores to join us. |

The gas lasts me a month to 6 weeks and you can exchange the cylinders at Target. The syrup mix is 6 or 7 dollars and it goes a good long way. If you get one, after you carbonate the water add the syrup SLOOOOOOWLY! |

I've researched it a bit. I'd like to get one eventually. You're not saving much if any by using the SS syrups. You can buy name brand syrups or roll your own. There are plenty of syrup recipes available on the net, ingredients are available from Amazon.
ETA: you can also find instructions to make your own soda stream if you're so inclined. |
