Has anyone ever been?  Thinking about making a trip to Austin this November. Probably just looking at going to the practice days and not the race because I work on Sunday. I'm just wondering if its as fun as it sounds like it could be.

It's a neat experience to be there, to see and hear them, to get a full appreciation of the speed - but for spectating it's mostly watching a car whiz by then another then another, without much frame of reference unless you're camped by a monitor.

bring lots of money and ear plugs. as loud as nhra drags but different. like a million dremmel tools going by at 200 mph. the hair on your arms will stand up when they go by the first few times.

My friend went to the first race back at Indy.

He said it was great and the sound was more than he expected.

I've found tickets to the practice days for ~$20-30. I'd like to get into the pits too.

Very fun even practice days.  The best part for me is the pace car trying to keep infront of the F1 cars on race day. You can watch the guy driving his ass off in the pace car with the F1 cars behind him looking utterly bored.  The restarts are fun too watching the F1 cars break loose their tires at 60mph to warm them up before the pace car peels off.
