I am installing a motion detector about three feet from the house on the outside of a deck joist.   I have several feet of normal inside wiring that I can run through the house siding but I suspect that I need to enclose it in a protective housing between the house and a weather proof junction block where I will extend the wiring to the location for the light.

I assume that the wiring from the weather proof junction block will be waterproof wiring or perhaps I should run regular Romex to the weatherproof box that will support the motion detector.

My main question is what is acceptable to house the Romex from the house to the junction box and is there any protective requirement where the Romex enters the protective housing just inside the house.  Access at that point is tight.
