I've had these since the late 70's early 80's. Stuffed in two 20mm ammo cans and forgotten on a shelf in the garage. I know they are collectable, but not how much to ask or accept?

That's what I was thinking.  They look the same as stuff we blew up a few years back, and that was all purchased new from what I understand.

Either they're no big deal, or we lit off a bajillion dollars in hot tub time machine firecrackers.

Man, I haven't seen those in a while. Brings back some good memories of blowing up ant piles.

"Contrary to urban legend, an M-80 that contains 3,000 mg of powder is not equivalent to a quarter-stick of dynamite. Those are full bricks 1280 per brick, except fr one that is 80 packs of 12 instead of 16. Was just offered $475 for all 16 bricks and a few old Zizzbangs. What makes them worth more than new made is the label having a DOT rating instead of a UN marking.  These all all over 30 years old.

No, it's the M80 that was always called a 1/4 stick. A quick google will confirm that myth.

"I also read or hear about statements comparing an M-80 to a "quarter stick of dynamite" or similar exaggerations. Wrong. To begin with, a "quarter stick" of dynamite has 35 grams of pyrotechnic content, while a true M-80 has just under 3 grams. So even if they had a same chemical composition, an M-80 would have less than 10% of the power of a quarter stick of dynamite. But the composition in dynamite (which varies widely) is a high explosive, while the chemical composition in an M-80 (so-called "flash powder") is a low explosive, at least from a scientific standpoint. So really there is no legitimate way to compare an M-80 with a quarter stick of dynamite."

If that's more than the current cost of the same thing with a different label, I'll sell them in a heartbeat.  I just don't see extra value in old-style labels on something like that, personally, unless you have your own collection you display.

It's not a "myth", it's just slang

M-80s are M-80s and IIRC, it's supposed to be 3.5 grams of flash; based on the old military detonation simulator.

1/4 sticks, Block-Busters, Cop-callers, etc...have always been something around 3/4 ID tubes, 3" (or longer) in length, and containing 10+ grams of flash.

The fact that you even googled that leads me to wonder what sort of sad, explosive free childhood you had

No, it's a myth, not a slang. I've had my fair share of lighting off M-80s and fireworks throughout my life. People only call them 1/4 sticks, as they thought that's what they were. They wouldn't be called 1/4 sticks if those rumors were not spread.

Anyone over the age of 16 who possess a full set of teeth realizes that "1/4 sticks" aren't really equivalent to dynamite

That's just a silly marketing line for big firecrackers (not M-80s).

You have to understand that almost all of the oversized firecrackers sold are made by individuals; not in a factory somewhere.

Names like Quarter stick, Half Stick, M-2000, M-5000, etc... are street names for different people's product; much like drugs.

I have never heard anyone refer to the little M-80 size firecracker as a "quarter stick" growing up; generally that moniker was reserved for the larger varieties, but maybe somebody just hyped up some M-80s to you and your buddies.
