Traditionally, I guess we were supposed to collect them into a jar for a lantern.
but what we always did when we were little, was chase them around with a wiffle ball bat smacking them until the entire lawn was illuminated green.
I'm setting here watching them from my deck. Neat.

I've heard their numbers are decreasing, possibly related to the honeybee problems. It seems there damn sure aren't as many as I remember...

I used to see them all the time as a kid in all of the various places I have lived i.e. Indiana, new York, goergia, north Carolina and so on. Now not so much, its sad since they remind me of my grandfather when I was a kid

My daughter loves catching them, the other night she must have had 30+ in 20 minutes... It's a good way to burn off that last bit of energy before bedtime
