I'm doing some work on my house and noticed something odd last night.
When i flip the light switch in the bathroom my TV shuts off... Now it just started doing this. It only shuts off for a second, kind of like it picked up a new video signal and is trying to switch to that then it comes back. TV is on its own UPS, which does not trip. bathroom and TV are on separate breakers. I did just install a new light fixture in the bathroom. black on black, white on white and the ground from the house and the fixture are both tied into the mount of the fixture. Distance from bathroom to TV is sub 20 feet. thoughts? PS. Am i going to get cancer? ETA: this only occurs when i dont touch the light switch for a few minutes. Just flipping the switch back and forth does nothing. |

In automotive that's correct. In houses it's not. |

How many romex cables are in the J-box with the light fixture?
Does the new light fixture switch on and off with the light switch? If you unplug your UPS at the TV does it duplicate the problem? Make sure you don't have a romex wire returning to the fixture j-box from the light switch. Wiring all whites together in this scenario usually trips the breaker! |

Or is that someone idiot trying to steal copper out of a power line? |

if the tv is on a UPS, I work on them every day, and it goes off, then the UPS is bad. there is NO other choice. if the UPS did what its for it would supply power. would replacing a light fixture cause a UPS to go bad? BTW If i hit the breaker for the TV the UPS takes over and the tv never flickers. |

Beware if there is a little smidge of black tape wrapped around the negative wire...it means it's a positive ground system for you automotive types. I'm going to find me a plumbing guy for the next pipeline project I need to start up...it's just a pipe and some valves, right? |

Only people who say AC has a positive and a negative wire. So pretty small group. |

Remove $59 worn out Chinese UPS from equation. Repro? Its an APC (dont have the model in front of me). Cost me around 500 bucks a few years back... Just replaced the battery inside in the winter.. but like i said. It just started happening when i replaced the fixture and only happens when i let the light sit for a few minutes. |
