You really do not get what welfare is about do you? It is social engineering. How about we return to capitalist free market, small government low taxes and low regulation, stop investment in anti capitalist communist nations and enforce immigration law so that there are jobs in America again and stop the social engineering? ETA- yeah its not going to happen. but shit sounds good in this reverberating chamber. More welfare is on the table and more debt to fund it.. or more taxes.. welfare cuts are not on the table. |

The more likely answer is C - Killing you or someone(s) else and taking there stuff.

All this welfare is an underlying problem.
Regardless of the will of the FSA or the politicians, the market will naturally correct these Imbalances. The government can try to hold it all together, but they will eventually fail and millions of people will starve unless they learn to feed themselves. |
| Actually when I was a boy in the late 60s-early 70s,poor people got what was called "surplus food". It was rice,beans,powdered milk,powdered eggs,corn syrup,cheese,things of that sort.You went to where they were giving it out,got in line and waited for your share. Thats how it was here in upstate NY anyway. People took the food,were grateful they had something to eat,and taking a handout was something you didnt want anyone to know about because it was shameful. |

I have experienced it first hand, staying in the New Orleans area for the 3 weeks following Hurricane Katrina. And no, I'm not scared one bit of these animals. But what are we supposed to do, keep feeding them free shit out of fear of retaliation? |

My dream looks something like this........
Distribution centers (already in place in the form of pantries, schools, other public buildings) to hand out rice, beans, flour and staples. If you don't know how to cook.....find out. It's not that hard. If you can't.......die. The program can't fix stupid. No voting while on the program. Voting suspended as a deterrent to sway elections. Fine for selling the supplies, $5000 and lifetime loss of benefits. Fine for buying? $10000 and imprisonment up to 3 years. Or......you can opt out of the program if it's not good enough for a one way ticket to any country you wish to reside in, just don't come back. |

Personally, I'd like to just cut welfare off & let's get the dance started. That way, we can get the whole thing fucking settled, clean out the festering wound, and America can move forward again towards being a prosperous, free nation.
But the ones in power either A) don't want that to happen on their watch, or B) they want American citizens dependent on the gummint. Take your pick.

I remember that's how they used to do it. you got the cheese, peanut butter, i think oatmeal and some other stuff but you had to go a a local place and have it handed to you. And if you want a free phone all it should be able to do it call 911 period nothing else at all. |

Why do people always come up with a government fix for welfare. Personally, I think both the state and federal government should get out of the welfare business altogether, and cut taxes. People aren't going to let people who really need help starve. I know I wouldn't. Private charities and churches would fill the gap. But what it would do is make those who really need it grateful to their local communities, and it would motivate people to get off welfare. If for no other reason then pride. There would be a lot fewer scam artist milking the system. Get .gov out it. |

Requirement for: 1. Actively seeking a job and getting job training (a trade of some sort...) 2. Work in a gov't capacity (since they're already getting paid). Clean the roads, buildings, etc. 3. Drug testing. Fail, you lose benefits. 4. As said...food is picked up from centralized distribution center. Rice, beans, butter, flour, powdered milk, some sort of meat and other veggies based on local availability. |

While solutions and fantasy scenarios are nice, the sad truth is that we are a nation held hostage by the FSA.
Even the politicians, who are so out of touch realize that if you cut off the freebies, they will burn their neighborhoods down around them. The cost to innocent people in the way and the cost to build infrastructure would be greater than just giving away shit for free. We are fucked. |
| I've always thought the solution was to take just about all that money and relocate it to pubic construction projects. Pay the people to work for their money. Pick up trash, something productive. Keep them busy, teach sell pride, perform a function needed in society. Pay some of them to be child care workers, to take care of the offspring while the adults go to work. Same amount of money spent but people would be learning skills and ethics. |
| I agree with the other ideas so far. And maybe give them some seeds to plant a garden. So they can get their hands dirty and see some fruits of their effort. Seed save and do it again the next year. Less money we have to shell out. Make them work for their own food. Every yard in the poorer neighbourhoods should be only vegetables and would be if we didn't give them cash for fast food. |

No giving them money on credit cards, etc. You show up, get your free basic uncooked food, and then go home. You can come 12 times (once a month for a year) and then that's it. Also, each month you need some sort of proof that you looked for jobs and didn't get them. |

MOST of the money spent on welfare is spent on the salaries, benefits and overhead of the people who administer it. It's spent on government. Despite the hardliner language on this forum, people aren't going to let people go hungry. Not in this country. People that really fall on a hard time would be taken care of if government would get out of the way.
